RX8 idling vibration

My 2005 RX8 tends to vibrate when I'm in Drive at an idle. Seems to be worse when cold. Anyone have thoughts?

I have an MT that after driving for awhile and fully warmed up has a little vibration when resting at a stop light. Nothing more than some other vehicles I have owned (like an older LX 5.0 I had), which I attribute to a little bit of a low idle setting.

The car runs absolutely beautifully and never stalls or anything. Is this anything I should be concerned about? If it were a pissed-in car (get it) I would probably not give it a second thought...

Thanks.

never hurts to check all the things that can cause it

1. motor mounts
2. plugs
3. wires
4. coils
5. maf sensor
6. filter

Most things you can check yourself and or clean/replace.

Thanks for the advice. I think the mounts are okay, the car shifts clean and I don't notice any unusual movement under heavy acceleration.

I have questions about the coils as I've read that mentioned often on the forums. What kind of early warning signs should I be looking for on the coils? I hate to just replace them because my car has 20,000. But I would hate more to be roadside....

i just replaced my Coilpacks, Wires, and Sparkplugs... and MotorMounts....

my car started to vibrate at idle a little....the shifter shakes aswell....

while removing the intake assembly...i broke the plastic tube that goes into top part where you put in the oil?? could this cause an unsteady idle???

i tried to plug them but didnt feel a difference..

So white spots DON'T indicate a bad coil? Hmm. Well, mine shakes some now after putting in new plugs/coils.

OEM coils are good up to 30k miles, so it is getting close for you to change them. Without looking at your car in person, the symptoms you describe could be due to your coils, plugs, and wires in need of changing.

What makes you assume the mounts are ok? Did you have them inspected by the dealer or someone familiar with the 8? It could be the coils or plugs as mentioned. However, in most instances it apears to be engine mounts. My car had a shimmy to it. Vibration was worse at idle. Replaced my mounts and the issue is gone.

Is your window fluid tank black or clear? If it's black (they mad a set of fixes middle of 05 production run).. your mounts are probably cooked / shot. There is an upgraded mount for pass side that fixes a material defect (mazda slipped by another re $$$ call).

Say.........WUT?

Did you mean"they made a set of fixes"?

But I do agree...........I'd go after the passenger side mount first above all else!

all RX8s Ive been in seem to idle rough, I was convinced my motor mounts were toasted, but after doing my subframe replacement and checking them, they looks perfect (yes perfect after 80K miles, I was shocked too!).

Some seafoam and new coils should smooth it out a tad. But so far Ive been in ONE single RX8 that didnt have harsh vibrations. The other billion Ive been in were rattle ****** just like mine.

my engine idles and makes a "lapping noise" like a swoosh swoosh swoosh swoosh. took it to the stealership and they couldn't reproduce it- since it happens intermittently. i have 10k miles on my car.

i this point, i guess i will will deal with it at the next oil change- maybe go somewhere else. mazda dealerships suck and can't do anything except scratch up my car every time i bring it in for service. or, maybe i'll upgrade to something else altogether. will see...

are you sure its abnormal? The rx8 is direct connect into the transmission, where as other cars have linkage. Some vibration is normal in the shifter since your directly connected to the driver shaft and engine with no linkage or assembly in between.
