RX8 Good Bad and Ugly?
Hey everyone! I'm seriously going to get an RX8 this coming year. I have got to have a 6 speed. I drove one, and I liked what I saw within the 10 minute test drive. So I need to hear it all from some current owners, and not the salesman who was needing a quick sale. So tell me all about them!! Good, bad, and ugly! Thanks!

Good
Chassis is good - Motor mounted nice and low with 50/50 front-rear weight distrib, great handling and balance, great steering feel and very forgiving car to drive, feels and drives like a sports car despite having four adult-size seats
Renesis is fun - makes neat noises, if you like to furiously wind out the revs its a lot of fun
6MT - Shifting gears is party time in this car
Brakes - Can stop you very quickly, which is good
Bad
Power - Power is OK, but with approx. 180whp from a 3,000lb vehicle don't expect to humiliate any civic si's (V6 camry's or accord's or diesel pickups either)
I don't think the car is ugly, but the suicide doors prevent it from having timeless beauty

GOOD
1. RWD Sportscar with incredible suspension/balance that has 4 doors and can seat 4 adults in reasonable comfort. - You simply will not find this combo in any other car out there for the price.
2. Unique look. - You don't see many on the road, and it turns heads. It has the kind of look you either love or hate. It does NOT blend in.
3. Rotary Engine that is smooth and unlike any other. - You either "get" the rotary or you don't.
BAD
1. Power - It is a quick car with smooth power delivery, but it is not a fast car with grunt (eg torque) from a dead stop. If you want to smoke the tires and beat people off of the line from stoplight to stoplight, you have the wrong car in mind (unless you go with a forced induction system)
UGLY
1. Fuel mileage is bad. - If you can't live with 13-16mpg as a worst case scenario, then don't bother looking at RX-8s

Its a great car
Ignore the search engine people, been a member for about 3 months, search engine is just about the worst I have ever seen. Great car, bye the way the car is fast, not quick, best handling, you will not be dissapointed. Ignonre the teenagers.

Yes - it leaves a lot to be desired. It's OK if you're looking for something very specific - like a CEL code - but it's pretty rough for general information.
That said...there's a decent FAQ in its own forum at the top. Lots of good stickies at the top of each forum. Also, the thread titles are generally pretty good, so one can learn a lot just by browsing and opening promising looking threads.
Browsing really worked well for me when I first found this site. Maybe the mantra should be "Browse, noob!"

no need for "search engines" ...GEEZ..If you take the time to read just the stickies..you'll find all the answers to every question you could ever have. Later on, they will come in handy..This place hasn't existed for at least 5-6 years for no reason. We have ALL been where you are...and all done our homework to the best of our abilities, and I am still learning everyday..
Little forum tip: Search first...if you have questions, ask, but let it be known you have searched.. We are just people here, and will help those that want to help themselves..
WELCOME TO THE ADDICTION.

Good: You strap on this machine. Its 50/50, low center of gravity, balance make you feel part of the car. The rotary power is very smooth and the high rev'g is sublime. The '8 really comes into its own in tight turn courses. It's a motorcycle on 4 wheels. A ton of fun. See "the little things" thread for voluminous ad hoc insight.
Bad: Relatively low torque, so not an off-the-line performer.
Gas mileage: The relatively low thermal mass of the small rotary promotes less than optimal fuel efficiency.
ps: concur, the search engine on this site is abysmal, but the stickies are chalk full of good info.

ok guys! Thanks so much!! A lot of you have been very helpful! I'm actually new to forums too, so I'm a little slow. It's just like anything else, you have your nice helpful people, and then you have your dumb asses.... And so they know, I graduated high school with a 3.8, and I'm in college. In your face bitches!! lol
