rx8 engine heat inside cabin

I am in pakistan and bought an imported 2005 rx8 about six months back. I got some really good advice from you people regarding it's upkeep and am looking for some more help.
  1. The car is in scratchless and excellent condition and has given me no cause for complaint. However, when i bought the rx, it had 17000 km's on it. i don't beleive this figure because it is incomprehensible for me to believe that a 3 year old car will only be 17k kilometers used. Is my doubt right????
  1. The problem i am facing now is that there is massive amounts of heat coming into the cabin from the frontal part of the centre console (around the handbrake/gear stick). Also the center console (all of it) is very hot to touch. Is it normal or do i have a problem with the car. If yes, what should i do about it because there are no mazda service points in my country, so i will have to do all the remedial work myself.
  1. Furthermore, somebody told me to add 1/2 litre of two stroke oil into the petrol tank on every refill. Is this right>

Thankyou in advance for your help.

17,000KM is about 10,000 miles? It's possbile in 3 years time i got the car for 3-4 months..i only have 1000 miles on it. Some people just don't drive that much or use this as a daily driver

As for the heat, as far as i can tell. It SHOULD be normal, everyone seems to say how the console is hot enough to keep food warm or melt chocolate, on hot days even mess up ipod/cellphone screens haha. Maybe because pakistan is such a hotter place makes it even worse? i live in a pretty cold area and it's still warm so....who knows?

1. could be true

2. the center console gets warm, due to the tranny being right there. It should be warm but not HOT.

3. some people premix others dont, you can look at it as going the extra distance to be safe. As far as the ammount - in the tech section there is a premix thread you should check out.

My '07 only had 4700 miles on it when I bought it a few weeks ago. So it's not that unusual.

If the center console is truly very hot to the touch, I would worry about the transmission. Is it hot just when it's been sitting parked in the sun, or does it heat up when you drive? I don't notice any excessive heat on mine, it just gets a bit warm.

Ok. Thanks guys.

1. If i drive right out of car parked in sunshine then it get's instantly hot. If the car is in shade then the car gets hot and uncomfortable for my feet, when i drive it for about 90km. So what can i do to reduce this heat effect. Furthermore, on the mazda manual they say "check the heat shields" after 72000 km. Maybe i need heat shield replacement but how can i be sure.

2. How much should i premix i.e. what and how much engine oil should i add in my petrol tank.

Thanks

yes very possible to have that low of miles and when i bought my 04 in 2007 it only had 13,000 miles on it over 3 years so it def is possible and for the heat mine gets hot also but not so hot i can't touch it i would crawl underneath or put on a lift(if you can) and see if the heat shield is on the cat and other exhaust parts etc....

Check the transmission oil. The console does get hot, but not by the amount you describe. There's a DIY on changing transmission oil.

Definitely read the premix thread before adding 2-stroke oil to the gas. There is a lot of information on what kind of oil to use and how much. I think half a liter is way too much.

Do you have a shop manual? There are a couple of versions on-line, if you search.

On the low mileage...as others have said, it's not unusual for an RX-8. Plus, changing the odometer is very difficult (maybe impossible) on cars these days.

Also I leave my air vents on recycle instead of fresh (Even when off on the fan switch). That will cut down a lot on the heat coming out.

Take care,

Brian

Please not engine oil...get 2stroke oil...something for a weedeater or something. Regular oil wouldn't work so well, with the fuel filter and all.

You could try this!
Might even want to expand on the idea.

I'm tempted by that, there's already enough heat coming from outside here in FL :P
