With the current cold weather in Northern California / Bay Area, anyone have any concerns driving with the summer performance tires?
I have been driving with the Kumho SPTs and no problems so far, but should temps in the low 20's and 30's affect anything?

If there's ice on the road, you're toast so make sure to slow waaay down. The summer tires perform like crap in cold/slippery conditions. Everyone up here in Oregon/Washington's been dealing with it for a while now.
My 2 Cents: Don't drive the car in the cold temps. Sports cars aren't for winter (unless you have one of those "I can't decide whether I want to drive off or on road" 4wd types). My car gets to sit in the garage with his own little blanket to cover him during the winter. Then again, we get about 4 thousand feet of snow here.
I bought my 8 last February. With only about 6 weeks of winter left (around here people put winter tires on around Thanksgiving and take 'em off around April 1st), I decided to hold off on winter tires for the six short weeks. (For me, driving is optional, and I only take the car out on weekends.)
But I also decided to a) not take the car out if there was ANY chance of snow or ice, and b) to take it real easy on curves on dry roads.
Temps often dropped into the teens and 20's—I didn't have any problems. (Though, as I said, I never took her out on snow and I drove her with kid gloves on the curves.)
Its been in the 20's at night and 60's during the day around here.
Coldest winter in 16 years in Phoenix.
The car loves it.
Wish I could say the same for my ficus trees...
Here the temp is -27 celcius and my 8 run really fine. We have approximatly 4 feet of snow but the road are clear. I'm really happy to have heater on my leather seat !!!!!!! This is the best time to hear the engine reeving. I have RB ram air with RB intake and RB Exhaust. The sound is really cool.

Central Coast dropped down to 11 degrees but no moisture - super dry so driving fine except cold bit the battery. It was a recall item and I got new one free from dealer with twice the cranking power. (Valley Mazda takes very good care of customers). Would not go out to play if the road was icy or snowy - but if I had to, I would use my old trusty 15 year old Mazda 323 which is perfect for bad roads, mud, sand storms, hauling goats, hay, and trash -
RX-8 is the town car - treat it nice, keep it polished and pretty, take it to car Rallys and hot springs
We did notice a rash of 8's towed for flooding. Combination of extremely cold weather and no warm up. Was 11 degrees in good old Paso Robles. Snowed in Malibu yesterday. Armageddon?

Nope, just a cooling cycle - it started about 1992 will run until about 2010 with cold and warm jags inbetween - warming will run from about 2011 until 2019, then it cools again. The Global Warming gang were just a little premature....
This morning I stepped out to my car only to find the temperature pegged at a chilly 38F. I moved here two weeks ago. This is not the SoCal I had in mind...
