RX8 Cars Seat test

Hey everyone. We took our Mazda 6 in for service today. We had our carseat with us so we headed over to the sales department and asked if we could try it out in an 8. They were glad to help.

The car seat we have is a Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat. It came with the Quattro Tour travel system (Big ol stroller and all). It is quite a tight fit in our Mazda 6 in the middle seat and it seems like it would be even tighter in the passanger seat. So i have been very worried that it wouldn't fit at all in the RX8. Well I'm not worried any more!!

So i put the car seat in the right passanger seat, since i don't think it would fit behind me. We adjusted the seat so it just touches the car seat and them moved it one notch forward. My wife is 5'6 and she fit fine in the passanger seat! We aren't sure if you can have the car seat touching the back of the seat or not, but that might make it a little more confortable. Anyway, I took 2 pictures with my camera phone to try to show how it fit. Sorry they aren't better pictures.

In any case, just so you all know, a rear facing car seat fit FINE in the rx8! This is great news for me....:D

Here are the pictures. Enjoy!

as long as your baby doesnt throw a fit and kick the back of the front seat. keep his / her shoes clean too!

my niece is 20 months old and her car seat fits in my 8 just fine. she actually has one of those toddler seats that you just secure with the car's seat belt. but when she wants something i feel it, literally! hehe

but this is great to know in case i ever have another baby, bc im NOT getting rid of my 8!!

That's exactly what I needed to see...

Drove by a Mazda dealer on my way home from an appointment with my wife this afternoon and I think she's coming around.

There's no rush on my purchase so by the time I need to make a decision I think the 8 may have worked its magic with her....time will tell.

Thanks for the good news and congrats to you too!

hey eric, the rx8 doubles as a "grocery getter" too! tell ur wife i do heavy grocery & house supplies shopping at wally world. if she loads the trunk right, she can fit a lot of stuff in there! of course the big stuff like 6pk paper towels has to go in the back seat, but small price to pay for such a sweet ride! i love my 8!!!

good luck!

We went to Babies R Us and tried a couple car seats. My wife was ready to sell the 8 when the Graco Snugride didn't fit well, the seat stood straight up, but we then tried a Peg Perego Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat - which is about two inches less long as the Graco - things turned around. This allowed the passenger seat to be tilted at a reasonable angle, and I, 6' tall, was able to sit, granted my left knee slightly touched the dash. It was not uncomfortable, just weird being that close.
The quality of both seats were equal, and about the same weight. The color was silver and dark gray, just perfect for our titanium color. Overall, it's an expensive seat - street price of $169 - but on the up side it fits, and to us owners, and soon to be owners, this is a good thing.
Now, on to the stroller hunt. What will fit in this trunk?

My wife and I are expecting our first child in October. We knew when we were planning on buying and 8 that their were kids in our future. The only was I sold her then was the pictures of the prototype cars with matching car seat. Well we bought last July and found out in January that our first is on the way.

A couple of weeks ago we went to Babies R Us to start our registry and pick out a car seat. We went with the Graco MetroLite Travel System which is a stoller and car seat combo. The car seat fit fine behind the driver seat (I'm 5' 7") although I would not want to drive a long distance that way. We couldn't get the both doors open on the passenger side due to a close car on that side. Although we didn't check my wife & I and the salesman were pretty sure the stroller would fit in the truck. This is a newer model that is smaller and lighter than anything else we looked at.

Don't forget to register for the mat to go under the seat so it doesn't make your seats. Also we will have to add a spacer like a piece of a funnodle or something to lift the rear of the seat up some. The deep rake to the rear seats made the rear facing car seat tilt down to much (Baby would be sitting almost straight up).

Yes I've put my friend's babyseat in the back a few times now. With someone in the front seat too. She's a 2 year old and fairly big but fit without a problem.

The best part was when we were taking her out, some lady pushing a kid in a stroller was looking at us from the driver's side (so she couldn't see in). She stopped and stared with a horrified look on her face, as though she couldn't believe we'd put a baby in a car that clearly has no backseat!! :D
