Rx-8 Vs. Fd3 Rx-7
These 2 cars are not the same. So can we stop posting threads comparing the two?
(1993) RX-7 $31,000+ (in 1993)
(2007) RX-8 $26,000+ (now)
RX-7 255HP
RX-8 238HP
RX-7 TWIN TURBO
RX-8 NATURALLY ASPIRATED
RX-7 2826 lb
RX-8 2888-3029 lb
RX-7 2 door coupe
RX-8 4 door 2+2
RX-7 5-speed
Rx-8 6-speed
RX-7 4 port
RX-8 6 port
Driving the rx-7 compared to the rx-8 is a completely different feel. So unless you have physically driven both cars, please dont compare the two.
I'm sure most the the previous rx-7,rx-2,rx-3 owners will agree.
Im sorry for the rant but this has been killing me everytime i see a comparison thread.

It's weird - I pulled up to the bank drive through, and after my transaction, the teller, asks me, "So, how do you like the RX8?" I said I love it. He continues, "How is the ride compared to the RX7?" - ugg I sigh...
I told him they are very different cars, and you need to drive both to appreciate them each for what they bring to the market. He was content with that, and gave me the thumbs up. At least he did not bash me.

I've owned both... err... all three...
93 RX7 MT - 04 RX8 GT AT - 06 RX8 Shinka MT
All three versions are different.
I spent $33K with 1993 dollars for the 7 and $26K for my 06 RX8.
Which do I like best? Even though the 7 will out accelerate our stock 8 off the line,
I'll stick with my 8 due to its technological and reliability advances over the 7.
Besides, it's easier insuring a 2 cylinder - 4 door family car.

I've owned both an FD and now an RX-8 and I feel that you can definitely tell they are from the same family. After missing my FD for a few years (school) I was prejudiced against the 8 because of the whole 4 door, 4 seat configuration, but after test driving some other current 2 door coupes like the 350Z I found the RX-8 put the same smile on my face that the FD did. Of course the RX-8 is not quite the no-compromise sports car the FD was, but I love it the same, and now that I have a step daughter the 4 door, 4 seat "family car" aspect of it makes it that much better.

Thanks guys for agreeing, i know im contradicting myself with a comparison thread but i put those specs in to lay out the facts. I reason for posting this was a few threads down where a person chose to buy an rx8 over an fd....which is fine, but dont compare them....
and yes, i agree that you can depfintly feel the car is of the same family...

The 1st gen 7 is very much so like a go-kart, while the 8 feels refined. Both handle like dreams. The 8 feels like it really should be just a 2 seater/ 2door. The 7 just feels like it belongs on a track not the roads. The 2nd gen 7 (NA) feels a bit more like the 8, but again more sporty and agile. The 8 is a sedan that thinks it's a high performance sports car, the 7 is a high performance sports car ^.^

I paid $26,000 for an FD3 in 1993 and also paid $26,000 for an SE3P in 2005
The RX-8 is more practical, more refined, better handling and braking, but slower thanks to the HP/TQ difference between NA and Turbo, I still think the FD3 looks better too, I pity anyone who has to work on that nest of vacuum hose snakes under the intake manifold tho ...

After owning a 82, 84, 89 RX7 and now the 8, I can tell ya that there is a vast chasm btween the different years.
Having never owned a twin turbo I have no reference point, but will tell you that the 8 is sooooo much faster, more comfort, handling is fanstatic, and the stereo still sucks!!!
Do miss my leather seats in the 84 though.

I started the current thread going "rx8 over the FD". What started out as my reason for picking the 8 over the fd turned into a completely different thread. Now people are posting comparrisons about the two when all I was telling them was how much I like the 8 over the FD. It's crazy how these threads can change. They're two great cars; both very different and the same.
I have to start a new thread when I get pics of my car uploaded because my current thread is flooded with repeated debates about the two.
