RX-8 gone from C&D Ten Best for 2007
Car and Driver's Ten Best for 2007 is out, and I'm sad to see the RX-8 off the list.
An explanation isn't difficult, though, as they kept the MX-5 and added the MazdaSpeed3. Could they have practically put three Mazdas on the list? In this situation, I'm afraid the oldest, previously honored car loses out.
The RX-8 easily remains within my personal ten best. Apparently my tastes and priorities differ from theirs.

The list isn't online yet. Some subscribers have already received the January print issue in the mail. I haven't received mine yet, but the entire list was posted here:

It had a run of a few years. Considering there are two Mazdas on the list, I think for a company their size Mazda looks very good.

Every member of the previous year's list is automatically nominated.
The key thing to notice is that the RX-8s spot was not taken by a competitor but by another Mazda. Haven't seen the text yet, but I assume that the G35's nomination is primarily or even entirely for the redesigned sedan, not the coupe. Took the TSX's slot.

I was surprised that the RX8 was there in 2006, 3 yrs. running with no changes. Lets face it, C&D and all similar publications need to sell copy and they won’t do that rehashing old stories. I’m not sure any vehicle stayed on the list for three years without any changes, never mind four years. The exception might of been the first gen Miata.
For those of you that value this praise, you gotta realize that the 8 is the washed up actor of the automotive seen. It certainly won more than most, but it won’t win again unless it updates itself. That said, I think the only comparable car that really raised the bar is the 335i coupe.
As for those who think for themselves, the 8 is still a great car and likely the one I’d still buy today.
