An inherent trait of the rotary engine is poor fuel economy. There would be virtually no fuel savings moving from model year to model year for the 8 (though the newest generation might garner some minor savings). A look at average economy across most of the user of this board would find no statistically significant change, assuming similar driving habits and routes.

Most sports cars tend to consume a lot of fuel, but rotary engines (for their displacement), are just very thirsty machines.

My '04 GT 6-speed averaged 20.76 mpg over the first 2 years of operation (haven't updated the spreadsheet lately), and on a road trip I have gotten 22+ mpg. So, if you are getting poor mileage, it may be due to your driving conditions, long idle or warmup periods, or a faulty mass airflow sensor. Or perhaps your driving style.

Change your coils, plug wires, spark plugs, visually inspect your cat, and clean your mass airflow sensor. It's your best bet for getting better mileage.

Don't forget to keep your tires inflated correctly too

Battery as well, my battery had a deal cell for a while and I just found out, swapped it out and gas mileage went up instanly.

Also, just manage how you drive it daily. Highway trips are better.

eh, best you can hope for is 14-17 city, 19-22 highway. If you fall within those numbers, your in the norm. Less than 14 while drivng normal, isn't normal.

I have to really say, in this car, a big part of the fuel economy is ones driving style.

I've seen 8 mpg through 24.3mpg....just drive it and fill up when you need....nothing you can do unless u want to see for something better on the mph but in the long run you won't win so just drive keep it below 3750 rpms and you should do ok...
