Thumbs up Rotary engines are the best

SO A FEW WEEKS AGO MY MAZDA WAS HAVING COMPRESSION ISSUES AND I TOOK IT TO A CANADIAN DEALER AND SAID IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO LOW COMPRESSION RESULTS. IT WAS TAKING ATLEAST 2/3 CRANKS TO START.

A WEEK LATER I TOOK IT FOR A LONG RUN TO THE STATES B/C THE WARRANTY WAS GOOD IN THE USA AND WHEN TESTED OUT AT THE DEALER THE COMPRESSION WAS EXCELLENT AND SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN WORKING LIKE A CHARM!

I ALSO LEARNED BEFORE SHUTTING THE CAR DOWN AND REVING IT UP TO ATLEAST 6-7000 RPM AND LETTING IT IDLE WORKS REALLY WELL. NOW IT ONLY TAKES ONE CRANK TO START

ROTARRY ENGINESS RULLEE :D :w iggle:

The moral of the story is, American dealers are the best.

More than likely, the long drive cleaned the carbon out of the engine. The carbon was causing the low compression.

Exactly - drive em hard, and sometimes rev them to the limiter to clean up all the gunk and they'll be fine. Rotary is a race engine - babysitting them and taking it easy will destroy them.

I noticed long trips are good for my car and clean out the engine. It always runs better at the end of the trip. that's probably what happened with your car while traveling to the US. I'm guessing carbon buildup probably caused the low compression.
