I'm confused as to why somebody would need an xbox in their car.

I've been looking into the idea of using XBMC for awhile. The iceLink option is unacceptable to me because of what it does for the cost -- not much better than an CD with MP3's on it. I've seen some terrible iPod-nav UI's through Alpine (I believe) and XBMC is the total package.

The only problems I've seen is the clumsy way of managing everything. You have to have the remote to do the video switching between the NAV and the XBox as well as having the controller for the XBox. Plus I haven't seen any way to circumvent the power button on the XBox so that it turns on when the car does. Just all very clumsy.

If someone could extract the RF signals from the video switcher remote (AvElectronics) AND a wireless RF XBox controller (Logitech makes one) and consolidate them into one simple remote that I could get custom integrated into the console area near the NAV controls I would be all set. Powering on the XBox would still be a problem, but there's probably a decent solution for that one too.

I like how I'm really focusing on this even though I don't own an RX-8. I think I like the idea of a fully integrated audio/video/nav system than pwns all others more than driving around in the car. I'm a big nerd.

edit: Go to http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/rf-power.php for a relatively simple method of integrating a wireless doorbell ($10) into an Xbox to power it on. You could program a learning RF remote to handle the signal if you don't want to use the button that comes with the doorbell.

There is a part you can buy that will turn on your xbox when your turn on the ignition and turn it off when 15 seconds after you turn off your car. It's a DC to DC power supply from http://www.llamma.com/ now all we need is a darn custom RF remote! i don't want a freakin controller in my nice mazda. lol

Sweet. Well, I'll post back here any info I find. You could use a learning RF remote and program it from the Logitech controller, but that might be getting up there in price. Plus, the learning RF remote is probably going to be pretty big as well.

edit: Is this what you're talking about: http://secure.llamma.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=499? What does the 1.6 mean? Is that the particular version of XBox it supports?

I was thinking of using an NES controller instead of the xbox one. I found a mod to attach the NES controller to the xbox and thought the old school look would be kind of fun.

I've also been told to just use the xbox remote instead of a controller to control XBMC.

guess I'm confused.... is there a remote control from AVElectronics with the video switcher? Which switch do you have? I was thinking of getting the basic kit with only 1 input + backup cam.

Llama didn't have any more DC to DC ps listed. Anyone else found a good one?

Later,

Mark

I thought the remote fro the Xbox was IR not RF (althought the only one I've seen is the DVD player remote) I'd say get a extension cable and relocate the little IR reciever and then just place the remote inside the armrest console

But then again I'm a PS2 guy so I know very little about the 'Box

anyone know where to get a backup camera for this setup? I did a few searches and found nothing. I've also not been able to find an RF remote either. I think IR is the only option.
