Remanufactured engine

I meant to ask this before, but I got a remanufactured engine put in a few months ago and I noticed the odometer is still at the same mileage. Are they supposed to change it or something since it is a new engine? The dealer said no, and I just thought that was weird, are they supposed to?

Odometer reading goes with the chassis. The dealer did the right thing. I'm pretty certain that he could not have changed it even if he wanted to.

It's illegal to change it.

Sushi,
Think about it a second... would you want to buy a used car that's been driven 200,000 miles, but they just put a new engine in it, so it reads 1,000 miles on the odometer?

im pretty sure if he would have changed it, it would be considered odometer fraud.

What you do is go get a used PCM/ECU (with less mileage), have Racing Beat reflash it so that you can use any key with it, and bam! You're odometer now reads a different mileage though keep in mind that this is completely illegal.

Wait, what happens then if your PCM/ECU magically fries and doesn't work anymore... I bet the odo has redundancy?

No, I see what your saying. I was just thinking that how do I know how much mileage is on my new engine or how do I show low mileage on a reman engine. I know it is fraud to change the odometer, but I was thinking that since it was a new engine they might do it. Never had to replace an engine before unfortunatly so wasnt really sure. Thanks for clearing it up.
