realllly concidering an rx8

ive been hiding around in the forum for a couple days now looking into the rx8.
Ive read alot of awsome things about it, and alot of baaaad things with in my research. I currentyly drive a fully customized 2k3 nissan sentra SER SPEC V, and im really tired of the "ricer" scene, im getting a little older and looking for something a little more sexier, classier and so the rx-8 just kinda apears in my mind,

gas milage im not worried about the highest ive ever gotten in my spec v is 24mpg and that driving in 6 gear at 40mph, and shifting at 2krpm, plus ive seen as low as 12 mpg

having to use premium gas is no problem cause i already have to do that

ive heard they burn oil becuase of something to do with the rotory engine, and you have to put up to a qt every 1500 miles or so, again no biggy

i know about the flooding in a quik start, stop, start , my car currently does the same

i know you always have to let the car idle for a little bit before taking off, again no biggie i never drive untill my car is at normal idle

insurance on the rx is acautly cheaper the it is on the specv for reasons unknown to me

my spec is definatly faster, and alot more tq'y

but both cars handle like no other

and i definatly like it better then my friends s2000, cause vtec sucks lol

so basicaly at this point is there any more info that any of you veterans can share with me to help in finalizing my interest, and debt to the bank???

its just like neother car in terms of maintenance n reliability, keep it properly maintained and it should last you a lifetime, i herd one guy has already broken 100k on this car, n rotaries r great engines, they only have 3 moving parts, so less friction means less wear on the parts, the only thing that messes them up is heat, i thnk thats wat killed the FD's engines bc of the turbos, im not sure, but overall its a great car, u have to make sacrifices with every car you buy.

i recommend using the SEARCH button!

Well, I am only 16 and I really enjoy this car for my age. I think for you...get a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (my avatar)...even though insurance is a bit high but it is a great all wheel drive, 4 door sedan. But, I also really enjoy RX-8's. Also try looking into the 3rd gen RX-7 FD. That is quite pretty as well.

An EVO? he says he wants class, not a barn on the trunk. Go for the 8, you won't regret it.

well. the actual body of the rx8 is designed much better and cooler... having the whole drivetrain in the middle of the car is such an ingenious idea... and the lancer evo is just a galant with a wing... and a big turbo'd engine.... u can turbo an rx8.. and if u really need the speed... wait for that new supercharger kit to finish.... u'll love the 8 im sure.

you remind me of me b4 i bought my 8. have you test driven one yet? i know i'm going to get hated on for saying this but, go test a g35 and a 350z as well, and a bmw m3 if you can afford it and then decide. the g35 had a spell on me for a while but the uniqueness, sexyness, and superior feel of the 8 won me back. still you have to know the competitors in its class. hope to see you in an 8 soon.

More like a quart every 4000 miles, not every 1500. But do check it often.. as you should with any car..

Good lord, I don't think even a 12A drank that much

i did mine every 1500 miles. when i did my oil changes, i would put in 4 quarts, and then at the 1500 mile point, i would add the quart of oil.

12A although still a rotary, it's still a different engine. it's like comparing a toyota 2.4L 4cyl engine with a honda 2.4L 4cyl engine

I'm not so sure about that. While the Renesis is a new engine, it has its roots in the 13B, which is a stretched-out 12A, which in turn is a streched-out 10A.. the construction is completely different, yet the family lineage is still there. The Renesis may actually be closer to the 10 than any previous rotary, being how the 10 and the Renesis are the only ones with side ports.

The decrease in oil drinkng comes, I think, from cleaner oil (vs the slop we had back then) and better oil metering. The MOPs back then were mechanical, and actually dribbled the stuff in via the carb. Today we just squirt exactly what's needed right into the engine.

I'm not too clear on what your post said. You mean, if when you did your oil change you took it to the "F" mark, in 1500 miles you have to add another quart? Something's not right there.. no rotary I've known has drank that much oil in 1500 miles.. unless it's going somewhere you can't see yet.. or outright burning it off (and that much oil burn WILL show up as a blueblack cloud when you goose the gas..) That, or the majority of those 1500 miles are happening at a track..

mine did burn quite a bit actually, but i guess that would also contribute to my driving style .

the most i would go before needing to add oil would be about 2,000 miles, the least if i remember correctly was like 1,200 miles

You seem to have nailed all the big points of the car, and have that self-justification that I had when I had my heart set on it!

Milage on the first 3 tanks i'm up to have been up up and up so far. Started at 17, then 20, then 22. Granted the last tank was all highway, and the one before that was 1/2 HW 1/2 city.

The other BIG overlooked point that i've found first hand is if you have a sunroof, TAKE NOTE of your height! I'm only 6' 0.5" and I'm scraping the ceiling. If I recline a lil it's ok but i'm not really all that comfortable. I'd say that anything 6' and up is a bit of a cram. I hear that lacking the sunroof opens another 2 inches or so, believe it or not...

Aside from the aformentioned, I think yur gonna be good to go! The car's smooth engine and intoxicating interior are hard to ignore! Pick one up already!!

no its just basic bolt ons as far as performance, cold air, header, and full exhuast , and the reason i said its faster is because the s2000 is definatly slightly faster then the rx8, and i can run of my friends s2000, either off the line or at the start, the other reason it faster is just the amazing tq the spec has, and where on the power band it is, so when i push the gas there is no hesitation, it just moves, ive test driven both an auto, and a 6mt, the auto was a silver one, with the gt package, it was slow as all get out, but went and drove the 6mt it was alot nicer and quiker. its just the sport package one, has the bigger rims, the spoiler, and the extra facia kit. hieght really isnt an issue cause im only 5'7", but no it doesnt have the sunroof. im not that worried about that i have one currently on my spec, and i dont use it much

It depends on the car and driving conditions, I us a quart ever 750 mileages. I heard the range is 600 to 3000 miles.

I have used a quart in 200 miles on the track and I have used a quart in 3k miles on the street. It is very dependent on driving style. It really is no big deal and just the way the engine. Short of that the maintenance is pretty easy on this car!

It is normal for non turbo rotaries to go over 200k miles. The motor is very solid in stock form.

Oh yeah, you mentioned having to idle when cold. That is not true. You can drive it immediately. Just keep it below 3k rpm until it warms up and then you are good to go. It loves revs, just not cold.

As far as oil use mine has been very little. I am burning roughly a quart every 3k miles. Which works out good because I hardly ever have to add any since evry 3k miles it goes into the dealer for the oil change and inspection. Be wary of the dealer though, they always seem to overfill the oil.

Im still not seeing how your sentra is quiker than an s2000 or an 8. It just doesnt seem possible with those mods you did. I mean, you maybe got 20hp from them?

With the torque of that motor, from a roll, he would be faster. You have to launch a S2k or RX8 hard to get its best times where you can easily roll a Sentra into a good time.
