Question question about xenon headlights

i was just wondering...are anyone else's xenon headlight one brighter than the other. My driver side headllight is brighter. You can't see it when you stand up close but when you move back, you can definately tell. Is this normal on the rx-8?

Not trying to hijack this thread or anything, but does anyone else feel that the xenon lights on the RX-8 does seem to shine as far as xenon lights in mercedes or bmw?

mine are equal and if bmw or mercedes is brighter it would be due to the headlights size not the HID system

Hey AsNrx8,

Great to see your car , after our meet I tried to see a difference . Other than the aiming I did not see any difference . You had better go back to Superior.

p.s next time you plan to go out with the kids , let me know , I'll treat to some games and pizza !

They should be equally balanced to factory specs unless you tampered with them. I know that S2000's have the driver side a tad lower than the passenger side. Did you try and drive up to a wall and see the difference. The HID's should cast an even cutoff line on the wall.

Mine are even and appear to be as bright as my ex BMW 540i Xenons.

Xenons are great!

Mine were a little uneven, but they broke themselves in, I guess.

And they are aimed better than the Boxsters, which may be why they seeem to be not as bright as some other luxury cars. They are just discovering you can aim them so they don't blind other drivers, and still be able to see.

Don't know about brighter, but my right one is a tad higher. I'm coming up on my (free!) 5000 mile service and I'll get it taken care of then.

It's supposed to be that way. The left light is lower so as not to blind oncoming cars. The right provides higher (thus farther) illumination for seeing the road signs, Bambi, etc.

There are two service schedules in the book, one every 7x00 and one every 5000.

My personal opinion is that's too long - I just got my first service done at around 3600. Typcally I've changed the oil in my rotaries every 3000 miles.

As for the headlights - my right side one is a tad higher than the left also, but they are both the same brightness (after they get up to temp, about 15 seconds or so). Sometimes I think I can see the level adjust slightly, but it could be just by brain fooling myself because I know it's got some self-leveling gadget so I'm subconciously looking for the aim to change when I turn them on.

Simon.

(hijack?) and related: how can you tell the auto-leveling is working? I've been watching closely for some time, and I can't detect any leveling whatsoever, under any conditions...

auto leveling

If you want to see if your leveling system is working, aim them at a wall from a ways back so that you can see the horizontal beam
when you are standing behind your car, now put your body weight on the trunk, within a couple seconds your should see the line move down on the wall
