Question about running rich

Maybe this has been answered before....but...
if the renesis is tuned from the factory to run rich, isn't that potentially bad for the engine's life in the long run?
I'm from the honda world so some of you may understand my concern regarding running too rich....i actually killed two brand new cats in my previous integra because i was running rich....also, from my limited knowledge about cars, running lean(er) should make more power as well.
I just wanted to make sure because I'm thinking about getting the CZ to re-do the a/f ratio.

rotaries run MUCH hotter than a piston engine.. running them rich cools the exhaust, which will make the cat last longer... the exhaust is still hot enough to cook off excess without damage to the cat. the only reason it runs rich is emissions.

by all means lean it out, you will get more power. you might light off the cat and cook it though, so keep it slightly rich if you actually care.

mazda is only running it this rich because of emissions.

Also make sure you have the latest PCM update. they fixed a lot of the problems and did lean it out better since M on.

What's the date of the latest PCM update? (Yes, I could search...probably)

Unless you are idling. I find the "R" flash is a little rough in the idle area. I thought the "P" flash was better for idling.
