Unhappy Problem with Clutch? Transmission? Forks?

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem on my hands and of course I need to come here to seek good advice from fellow members.

For the past month or two I've been having problem engaging gears when the transmission is hot. I also had the squeaky clutch, which there is a service bulletin on. I was planning to take care of that this week!

Well, I go out to my car today, start it up, go to put it in reverse and NOTHING. Go to put it in 1st NOTHING. I am thinking the clutch it gone! I have driven the car hard, but thats once in a blue moon. I do change at redline about once or twice a week and I think I've grinded the gears and that car 4 or 5 times since I've had it.

The clutch still feels a little stiff, but I did not hearing the throw-out bearing when I started it today. Is that a sign?

Any ideas? Any questions?

FYI I have a ACT Flywheel, Pressure Plate and Clutch installed. I also have 49895 miles on the car.

By the sounds of it it's a clutch if there is nothing at alll......shouldn't b your forks or it would not go into gear at all..

It doesnt go into gear at all. I went back down, started the car and tried to put it into several gears and got nothing. The clutch does feel a little lighter now, I am thinking its the clutch as well.

I wonder if Mazda Roadside Assistance is still free????

I think roadside assistance is free as long as you have the bumper to bumper warranty...So your car will not go into any gear at all? Well it does sound like the clutch! No grind or anything just wont' go in or does it grind and you just can't get it in?

I called roadside assistance this morning, and they said I am good till next year.

When I have the clutch engaged, it wont go into ANY gear. I dont get a grinding noise though. When I try to put it into gear the car moves a little, as if it wants to go into gear but then I get nothing.

Hopefully its just the clutch, I will just tell them to put the stock clutch setup back in.

UPDATE: I had roadside Mazda come tow the car to the dealership and when I got in I noticed that I can put it in gear when the car is off. I started it and took off, tried to switch(while car was running) and it wouldnt come out of first gear. Turned it off and it went into any gear I wanted.

This is weird, what could this be?

Clutch or clutch pedal. That's a good sign that it goes in to gear when the car is off. Probably not a transmission or shifter issue.

The clutch pedal bracket tends to fail on these. It could be that. Have the dealer check that first before dropping the tranny.

They said it was the Master and Slave Cylinders. Could both of them go at the same time? And they quoted me an *** raping price of $750.00!!!! Those parts are so cheap, its not even funny!!! Theres no way that labor cost that much!

WTF? Master cylinder? Do your brakes work fine? If so it's not that. The slave cylinder is a possibility. There is a TSB on that. Did they check your clutch pedal bracket?

If not have them confirm that the bracket is fine.

My advice is that if it's not the clutch bracket to do the slave cylinder but not the master cylinder if your brakes are fine.

I was just thinking that too! I have so much going on right now with my business that my mind is in 20 places at once. I will definitely contact them tomorrow!

the reason you can switch gears with your engine off is that the transmission is not connected to anything. you dont even need the clutch to do this. so this tells us that your transmission is (most likely) fine.

it is probably a problem between the transmission and the engine.
