Possible Loss of Power ? HELP !
Hello to everybody,
I own a RX-8 192bhp 5MT . This is European specs and may be it is not imported in your country. I currently have 25.000Km and my car seems to have no problem. The past two months I have raced other RX-8 192 5sp and it seems that we are exactly the same in power.
However, recently I have raced a 231bhp 6MT and the differences were great. We started in second gear moving and at the end of my 2nd gear the 231 was already 1 car ahead. At my 4th gear ending the 231 was 3-4 cars ahead of me (even more). I have conducted a survey here and they tell me that the difference between 192 5MT and 231 6MT should not be so great. As a result, I suspect that there might be an issue with my car probably loss of power. However, the car seems to be very strong in every gear and revs very quickly with no hesitation at all. Some times it surprises me with the pull of the power it has.
So is there anything that I can do? How should I discover loss of power IF my car pulls very strong and it seems strong. I cannot dyno it and make safe results because I have never dyno it before. In addition, it is not easy to find another 192bwp 5MT and race it (drag race track etc).
Thanks

sounds to me like your car is perfectly normal.
assuming the 192bhp model is the 4 port engine that is available in only AUTO models here, it sounds more than right. Your car is naturally, on every scale, going to be signifacantly slower than a 231...which has 6 ports and more power.
and just as you've heard and i'm sure you'll hear again, the 8 is the entirely wrong car if your into drag racing. Rather then sink into a money pit to get it somewhat stupid fast, sell it and get a car that's designed for so...it'll be TONS cheaper in the long run, and it sounds like you'd be sitting a whole lot more satisfied. Heck, if you love the rotary so, the 7 sounds A LOT more along the lines for you...its intial cost would be less than it would be to get the 8 even up to it's 1/4 and 0-60 times. Not to mention it's upgrades will be a whole lot more efficient

Bellow you will find drag test between 192 5MT and 231 6MT. According to the times below do you think is normal when 231 and 192 both having 2nd gear and stepping on it the 231 making difference?
Apart for the times is it anyway to find out IF MY CAR HAS POWER LOSS?

one sure-fire way to find out...go to a dyno. Sounds obvious and may cost you a little money, but if it's bothering you THAT much, do it.
at least you'll sleep better at night, i guess

sounds about right. a friend of mine had a 4 port rx8 (auto, 4 speed, but same engine) and he said the difference was noticeable when he sat in my car and i launched it to the top or 4th gear.
also, please people. get off this guys nuts about drag racing. sure sure, the rx8 is not "the perfect" car for drag racing like a camaro ss or a mustang cobra. but it does alright. morever, you can tell from his post count he is not a noob. seriously.

My car has recently been a little down on power compared to what I remembered it, but I'm coming up on 30,000 miles and am willing to bet that it's the result of coils and/or plugs that need to be changed.
