Is it possible I blew out a chunk of Carbon?

My car is automatic.

I was driving home from a road trip (drove about 500 miles from Miami to Orlando). I had been driving pretty hard

After the volt I was going about 90 when I heard a loud "thud" and the car shook. Immediately the car surged forward and I felt like I had more power on tap. My rough idle was gone. The car started faster. And there were a few other noticed improvements.

No glowing cat or rattle. So I'm fairly certain the Cat didn't blow.

Any light you could shed on the situation would be great.

:o didn't know that, well I wasn't racing per se. Just driving home quickly. Lol. I checked the cat. Doesn't seem to be it.

It's not something you would see unless you took down the front of the cat and looked inside. You may also hear a rattling sound from the back where a piece of the cat got stuck in one of the mufflers.

Street racing content removed. Don't repeat it.

If there is a chunk of carbon big enough to make that kind of noise, it would have taken your engine with it.

Likely your cat blew out.

Would the cat blowing out explain a smoother idle and faster start up? I'll remove the cat sometime this week and check it out.
