Angry Plate cover story...

Well...a little story for those with covers...in Canada at least.

Had a not so wonderful experience Friday morning on the way to work. I was at a light and noticed a copy a couple of car behind and in the right hand lane (I was in the left lane). I was reading an email on my BlackBerry (yes I'm a techie...but mgmt now) and immediately dropped it on the passenger seat when I noticed him. The light was red so I wasn't reading it while moving so worst case I thought he'd give me a lecture. Drove up to the next set of lights and was going to turn left to go onto the street that my work is on and then noticed the cop pull a U-turn and signaled to turn right onto the same street as me. He waived the guy in front of me on, then me, then pulled in my behind be and "lit em up!.

Of course I thought he was pulling me over for reading the emails but it turns out it was for my red plate cover. He gave me the lecture of "tinted plates" and the fact that he couldn't read my plate (which is a load of crap cause I checked them from 50 ft away and they were fine). The kicker was when he showed me the highway traffic act and it stated that attempting to impersonate "diplomatic plates" (remember they are red) is a an offense that is "jailable" and not just a fine.

He let me off with a 12 hour warning to remove them and actually wanted me to take them off now but I told him I worked in an office and probably didn't have a socket set handy.

I also asked him how can retailers sell things that are knowing illegal? This came from Canadian Tire (kinda like Pep Boys in the US). He told me that they can sell "whatever they want" even without warnings or disclaimers. Needless to say I'll be going back to them and raising a big stink, getting clear pate covers of course but seeing if I kinda get something else of out this hassle. I will also be sending a letter to their head office suggesting they at least put warnings on these things as they do with "back yard" fire pits that are illegal in some suburban areas.

Just wanted to share my grief and "virgin" stop with the 8. Only took 3 weeks and good news it wasn't for speeding (which everyone at work thought of course).

Here's a pic sort of showing what it looked like. Tough to see as I've smudged my plate number but you get the idea.

we cant really tell sweetie b/c you blured out the letters/numbers..which is very smart..but you should have just changed them or blured out some so we could at least get the general idea....Anyhoo--cops are 99.9% bitchs...plus..most the clear ones have a reflecting thingy on them so if you run a toll, when the camera flash's, it blocks your licences plate number....

But you didn't read that from me...

A lot of places here sell random things for the cars that are not considered 'street legal.' Usually, there are little disclaimers on the packaging that says 'For Off Street Use Only' or something to that extent.

In regards to the red tint on the license plate, in CA, any color is illegal. But I think they ammended the law to allow clear ones to be legal in CA, however, not the clear reflective types like DrivenBySpeed talked about.

But people will continue to put them on their cars regardless of what it says. It looks cool, no doubt about that, but I think most people put them on their cars anyway and take that chance of getting pulled over.

Just my opinion...
