Paint Change Covered by Warranty?

I searched around, but didn't find anything exactly related to this.

I have a velocity red '09 and I swear the paint on this front bumper is slowly getting brighter, or the rest of the car is getting darker. The front seems more like a candy red in direct sunlight, where as the rest of the car looks a bit deeper and darker. Is this a common issue? I know paint matures differently on various materials.

Do you think Mazda covers this under warranty? I called my dealer but they need me to bring it in and it's a 30 minute drive, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever tried.

doubt it unless it's really terrible.

pretty much all cars (all makes and models) have slightly different colors between sheet metal and plastic (like you mentioned)

Does the car see sun 24/7?

I can't really seeing it changing all that much, considering it's an 09 though. post a pic

I know that this sometimes does occur with new cars. Since the body is steel and the bumper is plastic, it takes some care to get them to match perfectly. That said, most car makers seem to have solved this problem by now. I haven't seen or heard of this happening on an RX-8 before.

If this was my car, I would go to an RX-8 club meeting to see if any other 8s have this issue. If there are no RX-8 clubs nearby, then go to the dealer and look at the new RX-8s on the lot (assuming he has any).

If yours is the only car with this paint mismatch, I imagine you could ask to have the bumper repainted to exactly match the car under warranty. Worse they could say is 'no'. Then, if it really, really bugs you, you could just have the bumper repainted at a good bodyshop out of your own pocket. Better yet, wait for that first scratch or gouge from someone who carelessly parked in front of you, and have it fixed and perfectly repainted then.

have you seen the new camry's? especially gray.
check between door and mirror/handles

The rx8 is no different. Might be less obvious on some colors, but pretty much all cars have slightly different colors on non sheetmetal pieces.

or it could have been damaged at the dealer and resprayed...

I bought the car used with a supposedly clean CarFax, but the previous owner might have fucked it up.

Nevertheless, if something did happen and it isn't documented, the hopefully my dealer will warranty it.

And there are no new RX8's at my nearest dealer. And none even used in red. Just a blue S1 and a grey S1.

Carfax only reports history filed through insurance. I put my previous Jeep on its side and the carfax was clean when I traded it in.....somehow.

Its normal, silver exposes it the worst. After 7 years, my car is all the same color, in a picture with a flash, you can notice it more. I wouldnt worry and no it probably will not be covered since its a rust through warranty....

I highly doubt it is oxidizing so quickly especially because it is not a single stage paint and it being so new. It would take years of unprotected beating by the sun to cause a mismatch in factory painted parts these days. The chances of the bumper being repainted before you purchased the car is high.

It doesnt hurt to complain to the dealer because you spent cash for a flawless new car.

What your seeing is the material. All cars that have plastic bumpers and metal bodies have a transistion. Only Mazda is some of the best in the industry. What your eye's are picking up is the texture of the base material. When cured the paint inherits properties from the surface it's applied to. Bumpers tend to be more smooth and galvanized steel tend to be more bumpy. The Steel Mazda uses is excellent... it's so good rust like to eat it.

Order some Zanio kit and it will look more uniform when waxed up.

i cannot comment negatively on color like this, but i will say that my car has the softest and thinnest paint i have EVER experienced on a car.

What kind of buffing was done? Cause Mazda use a lot of clear. There paint is as good as GM's and Ford nowdays. Just look back at 1st and 2nd gen's after they where 7 years old they paint was all faded.

The base coats nowdays are all thin cause of the automation spray systems for this price level of a vehicle.

none whatsoever. by the time it could have ever used it, it had already become painfully obvious how junk my paint was.(i have done some minor swirl removal by hand twice) the sole issue i've had with the car in 4+yrs and 65,000miles though so...

I inspected my car thoroughly today and I'm shocked and saddened. The driver's side had to have been in some sort of wreck, because there is obvious repainting. The door jams and under the hood feel very rough on the driver's side, as opposed to a smooth finish on the passenger's side. My driver's side rear wheel has a different tire and there is a dent in the rear bumper. The bolts holding the driver's side fender on have been removed, as evidenced by the scuffs on their heads. The hood sits off and is not aligned. Additionally, it was closed when not aligned and there are chips on the edge of the hood and fender. The driver's side front wheel has fairly obvious positive camber. The driver's side fender sounds like it rattles when knocked on, whilst the passenger's side makes not a noise at all.

My car has had some **** of work, from what I can tell, by the previous owner. The dealer sold it to me and said it was a clean car, and this might not all show up on the CarFax, which I never got. Is there anything I can do? If I get the CarFax and it shows work, can I confront the dealer and have them take it back. There are lemon laws, but idk if they apply here. Even if the CarFax is clean, he said the car was clean as well, and I feel like their mechanics should have found this obvious work when inspecting it.

I dont know about 2000+, but I know mazda has never been able to paint a car prior to that point and have it last more than 5 or 6 years. We're talking massive failure...severe fading, clear peeling, etc. I've seen it on hundreds of rx7s, mpv vans, millenia, 626, mx6, etc.

I no longer have stock mazda paint on my rx8 so I can't commend on it.

The car may have been wrecked and fixed internally to avoid a tainted carfax. This is very common and Ive seen it done by multiple dealers.

Did you buy your car new or used? If new, how many miles?

If it had more than 100 miles, chances are it was a demonstrator vehicle which means theres a moderate chance it may have been smacked and repaired...

Lemon Law refers to an issue caused from the factory.

It depends on the OP's state laws. There's a lot of gray area in this kind of thing unfortunately.

My advice being a dealership employee. (only if vehicle was purchased as NEW and NEW only; USED - your **** out of luck, sorry)

Go to a credited bodyshop and have them verify the vehicle has had body work, get some sort of a letter.

Bring all SIGNED paperwork from time of purchase and letter from a credited bodyshop bodyshop to your LAWYER and have him review the paperwork to make sure you didnt sign something that releases liability after purchase and to also review any laws for your state stating that damage prior to purchase needs to be known by the purchaser.

Let lawyer handle it from there.

The dealership will deny it, unfortunately. And Im not sure if there's any law in your state saying that the dealership has to disclose damage done to a vehicle prior to purchase.

This will require legal action buddy, it's going to be a PITA.

FWIW though, in 65K miles of fairly abusive driving, ive never had a single mechanical fault

this is almost ALWAYS the case... i've never heard of a dealer not making you sign some sort of "AS-IS" agreement as a condition of purchase... with the exception of special orders

That's so ghey. Especially since the dealer said the car was clean and clear with no previous issues or anything.

If I get the CarFax and an issue shows up, can't I get some sort of false advertising issue going?

Theres a good chance the carfax will appear clean. Carfax is a ******* scam (excuse my language). Ive seen people get a dent popped out and itll show up on the carfax as "damage/accident". Yet Ive seen people get into full blown wrecks and the carfax shows clean

If they 'internalized' the cost, there will be no carfax. If the collision occured on private property, most of the time, no accident will be reported. Just saying, most of the bodywork done to "new" cars is usually mishaps that happen on the lot. 99% of the time some touch up and dent removal van will come out and button it all up with a cost of next to nothing. Then theres no harm no foul

Do what I said, get a lawyer involved to read all your paperwork. You more than likely signed a paper that states "as-is" seeing as how the vehicle has a factory warranty. However, that document releases the dealer of everything..... Soooo, its not looking good man, start digging through your documents.

I have friend with a father for a lawyer. Apart from what's already been discussed, he said there could be something if Mazda denies my warranty based on the repairs, as the car was advertised as have the remaining balance of the factory warranty.

Eff. I'll see how the dealer handles this for now. I asked him for the history report weeks ago. I'd drive down if it weren't an hour away down a toll road.
