Night Light Question....

To anyone who has bought and installed these, is there a switch to turn them on and off or do they stay on constantly when the headlights are on? Also, hard to install or not?

I had them installed in my car by a stereo shop as the instructions looked like a little more work then I was wanting to put up with.

The lights have a red dome covering them to cast a reddish glow in the footwells of the front seats that act in tandem to the rest of the interior/door lights. They come on when you open the doors and stay lit for several seconds after you close the last door, eventually fading out with the rest of the lights. I did not see a manual switch of any sort (besides that of opening and closing the door) to turn them on or off at will.

it is a really simple install. 2 clips that will wire inline with 2 wires by the fuse box at the drivers feet. it did not take long to install and the directions really were as clear as you could think. they stay on for 10 seconds i believe after the door is shut......yes they dim down with the rest of the interior lights.

Yeah, the install is very straightforward and the instructions are easy to follow. My only deviation was putting the driver's light near the steering wheel column instead of inside the quarter panel. I'm not sure why they recommended that spot.

Whatever happened to the night lights that were supposed to fit in the bottom of the sideview mirrors? Was that just preproduction confusion? If you look at the underside of the side mirrors there's a cover piece that looks like where it might go.

i placed mine in a different spot as well, i thought the spot they told me to put it was not that good also. the side mirror lights i believe are for the european cars, i bet you can find the parts for them overseas.

Can you two be more specific on the locations you placed your nightlights? I'm thinking of getting them, and it would be helpful to know that there is a more logical place to install them then the Mazda recommended spot.

Appreciate it in advance.

I'm not sure how I can be more specific than "put the light near the steering wheel column." Try looking at the underside of the driver's dash and let me know if it's still unclear.

I don't know what you have to be a smartass about it. "Near the steering wheel column" could be intrepreted on the right side of the column, left side of the column, beneath the column, etc. Do me a favor, if you don't feel like giving a useful response without being retoric or condescending then don't bother responding at all.

It's nice to know we have people on this forum that care about sharing information and advice with other members without brass comments, unlike you.

BTW, thanks for your clarification, if you can call it that.

Did you even take my suggestion and look at the area before flaming away? If you had you would have seen there's only one place near the steering wheel column that's flat and wide enough to mount the light. If you can't bother to take a look at your own car then why should anyone bother to help you?

I would "bother looking" if I could see my car in person. You see I'm overseas. I don't fault you for not knowing that, unless you see my sig. Regardless, you didn't need to come across with your original stuck-up attitude.

So don't help me, I don't give a flaming crap. I'll check it out on my own, when I return home.

zoomster,

i dont think he was tearing you up.....it might have come across that way, but i didnt read it that way.

ok, the answers .... my passenger side i mainly placed the nightlight in the place that was directed which was in the center of the legroom, up under the glove compartment. they show nicely how to undo the glove box.....this will be simple.

on the drivers side, when you take the undercover off (directly under the steering wheel) you will see a metal crossbar, that is where i believe he put his light, and i put mine as well. they tell you to place it up above the fusebox, which is located by your left foot side of the compartment.....but the place they tell you to put it doesnt make much sense....not much room, and gives no good light to the foot area. what i did was just feel around for where i would like the nightlight before placing the double stick tape on it.

the install is pretty easy and doesnt take all that long.

so far i have dont the nightlights, the mp3 player, hard install of my radar jammer and i just got finished with my spoiler and it all looks great.

i am sure when PUR reads this, he will tell you that is what was meant, but without knowledge that you dont have the car.....if you had the car it would be better taken. i'm sure nothing was meant ini bad ways.

ohhh, and go rams!

Well, I beg to differ. I think PUR was trying to tear me up. I think it was rude and disrectful, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, I appreciate you responding. This is the kind of detailed information I was seeking, as to why you felt the "recommended" location didn't make much sense, and where you felt was a "better" location.

My first "self" mod project when I get back, will be the nightlights, if I decide to get them, and to install a radar detector.

Again thanks for info.
