New to the site. Quick question.
I'm a previous owner of a few FD RX7's, and now I'm looking to buy my first 8. i've found one in my area that I'm going to look at and test drive in the morning. here are the specs...
'04 GT, winning blue, black leather, 6spd, navi, 43k miles. mazdaspeed full body kit and some type of aftermarket exhaust. (haven't seen the car in person and the dealer thinks it's stock) he's asking $12.9k Deal or no deal? I also work at a dealership and have access to a black book so I'm aware of what it's worth to a dealer.
any advise is appreciated.
Also, Hello, I'm new here! I've been lurking around for a couple of months and decided I would join up.

thanks for the quick reply. $10k is around what black book says. give or take. but so far, I haven't been able to find anything competitively priced in my area. (charlotte) most are around the same price with more miles. or a couple grand less with over 100k miles. My budget for this is around 13. so this fits the bill. plus I'm a huge fan of the front bumper cover. from the pics he's sent me, the car seems to be in immaculate condition inside and out. I have not received an engine bay shot though. was the '04 available with factory 19" wheels?

ok, now just to find out whether its a real ms kit or knockoff. if it is knockoff someone put some money into fit and finish. the only other clues I get from pics is its possibly lowered, calipers were painted red, instead of an rx8 badge in the rear it reads the chassis code se3p. I'm looking forward to going over this car in the morning, maybe a new rotary to add to the family!

honestly, when it comes to a used car, aftermarket parts means almost nothing to the "maybe new owner", and dealership knows it. sure they might put this up on their for sale flyer like "FULL MS KIT VALUE AT XXXXX" but seriously, it means nothing to most buyers.
so, I would say, 11K the most.

I think it comes down to what it's worth to you. The book values are a guideline, but not the gospel. If the car, with aftermarket parts, is what you want then it's pretty insignificant what the book says. You could find another car cheaper, do the add-ons, and spend more. Sometimes we worry a little too much about the minutia of pricing.

Same for any Series One... it needs to have a current Mazda compression test or a new reman engine from the extended warranty. The rest is mute.... unless you want to deal with a 5-8 grand engine & clutch and maybe new OMP. Most of the 04's engines are crapping out man read some of the threads. There are series ones with fresh engines to be found.

I checked out the 8, It was in horrible shape. for a car with 43k miles, I was astonished at the condition of the body. dings and scratches everywhere, the front bumper was cracking (fiberglass) the side skirts had overspray all over them. then I got him to start it..... it idled fine. despite what I though about the exterior I test drove it anyway. after warming it sufficiently, I took it down the road, making sure the trans and clutch were ok, everything seemed mechanically fine. I got caught by a red light. the idle turned to sounding like a bridgie. brap brap brap.... I turned around at the redlight and headed back to the dealership, accelerating easy in 1st and *trying* to take it to redline in 2nd. I lost all power after 6k rpm. I would not even reach 8k. I finally got it out of him that the dealership removed a turbo kit before trying to sell it. nice... I drove almost 2 hours total that day just to be disappointed. If your in NC, stay away from Driveright Auto sales. I feel sorry for the poor person that buys that car.
so anyway I'm heading to look at an '05 with 31k miles tomorrow. wish me luck. the lady I talked to said it was a Shinka edition, but it's gray with black cloth.....

lol i looked at the site.......i snagged a few pics of the car to show......sad, it looks pretty clean! and it shows se3p on the back where rx8 goes, would se3p be the turbo?
looks like the left headlight is probably oversprayed
bumper is a mismatched color
my question is....why would the dealership take out a turbo, they probably didnt take it out right
i love blue (mine is blue)

the salesman said he bought the car at auction with a bad turbo. so he bought an FD ebay turbo kit, but it wouldn't fit... go figure, so he removed the turbo kit. the pics don't do it justice.. if you look closely in the last pic, you can see the clearcoat peeling off on the right side of the bumper. what you can't see are the cracks in the rear bumper. the front bumper is cracked, etc., etc. SE3P is the chassis code. what a waste of time, and it makes me sad seeing how some people treat their 8's.

So did you buy the Shinka? I think you should do what Nycgps said and that is to negotiate price down as far as you can and be prepared to walk if they don't meet your requirement. Don't listen to people who say if you like it, then buy it for whatever price. NEVER listen to those people. You'll only regret it later.
