New to RX8 world
Hey all I just bought an '04 RX8 with 14000 miles on it. It's definatly a fun car to drive. I've only had the car for about 5 day but I noticed if I keep the RPM's about 3500 I get better gas mileage. Is this right or is it just me. I drove 8 miles and my gas dropped one little line on the guage....(that was keepin the RPM's in the 2000's. Then I drove 26miles keepin the RPM's about 3500 and I just used a little bit more then I did driving the 8 miles. Thank for your help

congrats dude, i bet you got a killer deal on it. this car just dosnt tend to get very good mileage anyways, I suggest you just open her up and have fun with it. Theres nothing like reving at 8000+rpm with this buttery smooth engine.

welcome to the club. What color you get? 6spd/AT? I wouldn't take those small lines for anything as the needle moves differently throughout the entire gauge. I can usually do 110-160 miles depending on how I drive per half of tank though.

The rotary has additional ports that open up at different RPMs on the 6SPD manual. The first happens around 3600RPM and the final around 6500RPM. These aren't exact numbers though.

Mine is an 04 IT's yellow and a 6 speed. I also have a question about gas. I don't have an owner's manual but I looked at one at the dealer from another 8. It reccomends 91 octane and I've ran 93 since I got it but is it ok to run 87 octane or should I not. I've researched everywhere and I've heard some people had problems with pinging but others didn't have any. What do you guys think?
Thanx

Ok I'll prob try it tonight. I do know lots about it I've researched them for 2 months before I got it I was just double checking. I know as much about them as I do a piston engine. I'll give it a whirl and see what I get from it.
P.S. I did search I already told you that. I've read both good and bad things about 87 octane.
