Hi to all I would first like to introduce myself and my 8 to the club, first of i am new to the whole rotary engine scene this is my first rx8 i have been using the search to gather a lot of information on maintenance and how to keep car running good,
2nd I bought the car from an auction with 118,200 miles on it, as i don't know its previous history on the car what would you recommend to do before i start driving
for example fluids change (what type) tune up, and things to do to keep the car ruuning strong at over 118k miles on it, here are some pictures of the car

Obviously oil change, spark plugs, coils, clutch (if needed). How does it sound and what do the RPM's sit at?

So far the car runs great and smooth, i have not yet driving it long enough to know where the rpm sits.

and yes i have read a lot of information regarding these cars in the search, but a lot of these post on here are from owners who have had their cars from the beginning, I am starting out at 118k and want to get a few pointers from you guys since im new to the rotary engine, and to answer the last question i got the car for $3600 was that a good deal? or not?

Even if it needs a new engine I would say you got a pretty good deal. After changing the coils/plugs/wires I would get a compression test so you could know where your engine stands in terms of health. From there you'll know if you need to start saving up for a new engine of if you can go ahead and do other things to it.

I took it for a 100 mile drive today and the cars runs great shift smooth and really picks up in 2nd gear only problem I feel is a slight vibration in idle which I asume could be a motor mount, how long do these engines last I see a few of you already speaking about a new engine?

It depends. It could die at anytime if you don't take the precautions of doing the scheduled and preventive maintenance. Anyway, even with the high mileage you got, if you follow the procedures correctly, the engine could last even longer. Good luck and welcome to the club.

really depends how well the engine HAS been taken care of, being it with over 118k miles (not that it really matters alot, its just the higher miles the more wear and tear etc. etc. etc.)

Ill be buying all the maintenance parts for it this weekend

Oil and oil filter
Air filter
tranny and diff fluid
wires and coils
spark plugs

What else would you recommend to add or to do to the list at 118k miles? Thanks for yalls help i really like this car and would like it to last me longer.

Go to Series 1 DIY and check out the Seafoam procedure. If the car is still equipped with a catalytic converter, DISCONNECT IT (you'll see why), and wait til all your neighbors are sleeping! With 118k on the clock, and not knowing its maintenance history, I'd say this would be a good start point, too.
