New member to the new engine club!

Even though I was not having any issues with my car I decided to take it to the dealership this past Saturday to get a compression test before the warranty expires and to my surprise it failed the compression test.

I left the car at the dealership over the weekend and I just received a call that the new engine is on its way. So yes, now at approximately 45,000 my first engine is done. Definitely glad I took the time to get that test done.

The bad news is that I won't be able to drive her for a couple of weeks.

warranty on the engine is 100,000 miles or 8 years. so your way ahead of the game.

my engine was replaced at 78000.

Why not?

It is a service request like any other.

Yes I only have 45,000 miles on it but it is an 04 model that was the reason I wanted to get the test done.

Pistonhater is right, they do. They asked me if anything was wrong with the car and I just said I wanted to get it done because the warranty was about to expire (I've only had two starting issues during the two years of ownership but upon inspection by another dealership everything was fine). So yes, you can request them to do it any time you want.

Nice! I wonder how long it would have taken for mine to go the same route.

I'm getting my compression test done today because of this thread. My engine warranty will run out in October.

It is a good idea to do it. I was not expecting it to fail since the car was running fine, but yes, now I'm just waiting for the replacement.

I'll stop by the dealership probably today to see what they plan to do.

My car is in the shop now for another issue (LIM). I asked them to do a compression test but they are reluctant to. I think the shop manger was trying to convince me it is not needed since the car was running fine before the cel. I'm just scared I will run past the warranty and be left out in the cold. I might as well have the engine replaced while they have it in there if it fails the test. They charge $140 for the test which is insane but is worth the peace of mind IMHO.

Well, my car was apparently running fine (didn't even have a check engine light or anything) and it still failed.

I had the same reason as you to do the test, I was afraid something would happen and I wouldn't be covered by the warranty anymore. So yes, I had the test done on Saturday and they called me yesterday so they are just waiting for the engine.

The dealership was really good too, they didn't even ask me for any paperwork before ordering the engine (I do have all the paperwork on file just in case).

P.S. The price sounds about average, I would have paid $122 for it at my dealership.

if you get your oil changed at the dealer where they did the test, they will
not ask for your paper work cause it's already on file. that was part of the case with mine.

I've only had one oil change done at the dealership where I took the car for the test, but I knew from other people that they are really good. But as you said, they keep the info at mymazda.com and I also add other maintenance related records there just to be safe.

i'm in!

at 99+k miles i felt the need to take my 2004 6-speed in...i sensed the power at the top end rpms (8-10k rpm) had fallen off...it was worth the $100 bet and recommend everyone take this bet...they told me it was "rare" to replace engine in the 6-speed...in any event, i have new engine...or "re-manned" as they say...anyone have a clue as to the warranty on this one?

my dealership suggested i do the test after listening to my concerns regarding the loss of power...

if they ask for "paperwork" prior to agreeing to the compression test / or complying with the results then the your service department is over-working itself...and you imho...

mazda usa was very "can-do" when it came to my replacement...my service department was on my side, too...all this, and i had never taken the car to the dealer prior to this except for a single instance of "flooding"...

I'm picking my car up tomorrow. They told me I have to pay for the compression test even though they replaced the engine... I called MNAO and asked them to check that for me, they still have to call me back.

For future reference, how much was the new reman engine?

How much wood it had been if they un-install and install the new one too?

Unfortunately, I'm in that club as well.
I've heard horror stories about reman engines so I'm not so happy about the new engine.

Yes, I know what you mean. I picked up my car yesterday and it feels different. Hopefully this one lasts a bit longer than the original.

My car has 117,000 miles, should I do a compression test? I feel like it runs just fine the last time I ran it, it went up to 130 mph in a short distance. Do you think the motors fine or should I worry about it? (2004 Mazda R-x 8 6 speed)

I guess it wouldn't hurt to get a compression test done, however, your car has 117,000 miles so it wouldn't be covered by the extended warranty anymore. But if you made it to 117k already then you shouldn't worry about it too much.
