New!

Hey everyone. I've been lurking around for a month or so now, reading perhaps a little too much (I know exactly how to change the oil, but I've yet to actually test drive). But I'm heading to test drive an 8 today before I make the longer drive to the one I'm interested in.

So I thought I'd introduce myself to the board and sneak in a quick question:
The 8 I'm looking at is a new 08 sport, never been owned, with 1200 miles on it, the dealer is asking $21k for it which seems pretty dang good. I figured I'd ask the community what they thought, should I try to go lower? Figured I could try: "with rebates on the 09, I could get an 09 with the changes for only 2000 more" angle, but what do you all think?

That is a very good angle. It's also a good backup plan - and if you're seriously ready to go that way, it will help your negotiations.

Those 1200 miles aren't good. They mean that the car's been through its breakin period being driven by test drivers who want to see what it can do, and joy-riding dealership service monkeys. That's your other negotiation point.

Thanks for the replies. I have to say I'm surprised. I read the 'year-to-year changes' thread, and it didn't look like too much difference between 2008 and 2009. I figured $21k was a little high, but only 1200 miles I thought was really good. The 09s in the area (only 2 right now) are 3k miles ish and $26k to $27k, which is a lot more, to me at least.

Can you all elaborate on why the 09s are better? and how much the 08 I'm looking at 'should' be?

Just let you know. I paid 22k for my 09 R3 with 5500mi on the clock.

What was the asking price before working the dealer/seller down? the 09 I mentioned for $27k is an R3 as well. Am I just in a not very good area, or do I just need to wait and look more?
