Negative Side of 8 year Warranty

Was just thinking about this earlier, because my engine is being replaced right now under warranty.

After the 5yr is over, then I am restricted to just the 8yr engine warranty which I am definately not complaining about.

But I do think where it will become a nightmare is dealers are going to come up with everything else and replace what they can before replacing the engine.
Such the case for me, lucky I am under powertrain warranty, but in order for them to find the cause I had so many other parts replaced before they decided this was the issue.

I know we all say on here, well if they need to replace the engine then everything they replaced to make it work that didnt, they should pay for it, its not the customers fault. And I agree 100%.

But I also know, in reality... fighting this one out is going to be a hassle.

It's so easy to bring in a car and say, oh you need new wires, coils, spark plugs, your intake is gummed up and broken, your injectors need replacing, oh and your engine needs to be replaced because the other factors have caused it to run rich and blow out. So we'll replace the motor but you must pay for everything else.

This is going to be tough times in the future. But then again a new motor is a new motor, and after really thinking hard about it yesterday because I am extremely depressed my car is sitting in shop missing its ***** waiting for a new pair hehe, but I think I am better off really getting this all done now, then later on when Im restricted down to just a motor warranty, not a powertrain warranty.

I got my warrantee extension letter the day I put the car in the shop for my turbo install. I thought it was kind of ironic.

Yes, both issues are problematic. The first (AstronomerB) creates conflict and hassles with the dealer if an engine core ever needs to be replaced under warranty. The second (maxxdamigz) is balancing the value of the warranty and the desire for engine modification. But if you really, really want a turbo, both problems are solved. Not really an issue for me since my RX-8 is merely a hybrid commuter family sports car for me. Don't really need a turbo. Only serious track car for me would have to be a light weight 2-seater. For me the dilemma is much more just one of irritation. I would like to make minor engine improvements like a Sohn adapter & Cobb AP (& maybe a test pipe) to really tweak the engine for the fun of it. But such minor tweaking is just not worth it at the expense of most probably voiding any potential warranty claim.

that depends on which dealer you go to

smart ones will figure the problem out quickly

in your case, your dealership is not a smart one.

haha yeah it is but really the dealers should know what a "going" engine acts like and check that first its not that big of a deal to do a compression test just do it and see...save them the labor and waste of time doing things they don't need and helps the customer also
