I bought the RX-8 and my 18 year old who had never driven a standard was out driving that night after 2 hour lesson. Never even stalled it on a hill.

I had to buy the a/t, but would rather have the m/t. I still enjoy it though and the a/t gets better mileage then the m/t. It's my 7th rotary engine car and the most fun yet. To get the true feel of a sports car (or any car) a manual transmision gives you more control. Once up to speed both cars have a good feel and feed-back, but if draging at stop lites and faster is importaint you have to have the m/t.

My wife has a AT .. she enjoys the car a lot , even has a name FANTSY , I drive it some , the AT with the paddle shiters is nice.
ON gas milage she gets around 21.5 on 32 mile trip one way in the Dallas/FT Worth area in traffic.
Hope this helps

AT will get you less speeding tickets. I have an AT and couldn't be happier. If I could afford two cars I'd have the MT. I fight traffic everyday and can't have a MT as of right now. I test drive the MT every time I go in for service just to fulfill my urge. Test drive the MS6 thats another fun MT ride.

The only really cool thing about the A/T transmission is that when you are going 29mph and give it full throttle, the car downshifts to 1st and flys, it actually feels like it pulls harder than the M/T at that point.

^ I've actually done that. Pretty cool. It's hard to get it to shift to 1st though. Mine usually goes to 2nd and drags ***.
