Talking My Wife's Observation

I let my wife drive the RX8 today so I could clean and do service on '03 Sequoia. She arrives home tonight after work and tells me about her driving expereance.

Two state troopers gave her thumbs up. Getting off 95 going on Route 3 a young couple in a Prelude stops her and takes pictures with there cell phone. One little boy in back seat of another car drops chin and trys to get daddies attention. This all in one evening driving home.

So tonight she asked "Is this normal for you when you drive the car"? Oh yes, I said.

Its wonderful isn't it. This is one of the few cars that get this kind of attention.

Sounds like she's going to want one next. :D

And yes, the attention is amazing, isn't it?

It's getting very difficult to keep her from driving it.

Maybe I can get the RX7 when they release it. Wouldn't that be sweet!

j/k

My mom was actually upset with me for buying a stick because she doesnt know how to drive one and now she can't drive the car when i'm out of town. My dad wants to drive it now as he borrows my brothers' mini whenever he is out of town. Parents are weird, thankfully, I don't have to live with them :b

Well now you all know what it's been like for us 3rd gen RX-7 owners. It's nice to get -some- of the attention diverted away.

If you think that's great you should see the attention ya get when you stall an RX-8. I'm getting very used to driving my manual and am stalling out less and less the more I drive it. I still need to get used to shifting between gears, because I get a little kick from time to time. But again with time it'll all come second nature.

No offense, but are you sure your wife hadn't forgotten to button her blouse, or something like that?

LOL

Thumbs up Kewl Factor

Yesterday was our first full-day of driving the car. Actually my wife dropped me at the school, and SHE drove it all day. She had similar stories about people staring, pointing, smiling, etc. I told her they were all just looking at her... score!

Anyway, I just posted in another thread: I would contend that the RX8 exudes the highest "kewl factor" of anything on the road right now. Can't really define it, but I know it when I see it... or drive it!

The design of the ENTIRE vehicle is optimized and integrated. I've NEVER encountered a car that appears to have been designed by a SINGLE PERSON.

You LET your spouse drive?!

Mine stalled it the second day I had it. He's banned for life from driving it now!

I get that with my TT. With the top down in the summer, the factor goes up. I once saw an entire bus load of school kids banging on the windows giving me the thumbs up. Another time right after I got my car, two girls started blowing kisses at me and waiving...strangest thing I'd ever seen at the time.

My wife laughs at all the attention she gets every time she takes it out on her own.

Welcome to the "you've got a hot car" club.

-Eric

My wife is somewhat apprehensive to drive the RX-8, although she likes the looks, was supportive of the car, helped pick the particular features, visit the dealer on her own. I think part of the apprehension stems from the months of resolving the potential rotary issues. Another factor is the all around RX-8 responsiveness, and she had a similar reaction to my motorcycle. She now owns her own smaller motorcyle and continues to shy away from mine.

Keep driving the 8. And, there are a couple of thread on this forum on how the heck the rear seats are supposed to work. Read them carefully and remember your stretching exercises.
