My wife drove my 8 . . .

My wife drove my 8 for the first time yesterday and I had to pull her out of the driver's seat. The grin on her face was enourmous. I had to return my leased '01 Integra GS-R and then go on a road trip. When she got to the dealer, she didn't want to stop driving it. I told her I understood, but get out!!! Actually, she doesn't see very well at night, so I gave her a line about that. She begrudgenly conceded. Originally, she wanted me to get a Z, but once I drove the 8, I knew the Z had no chance (plus I needed a back seat for my son).

I hear ya! My husband drove my 8 the day after I bought it. When I bought it he said I should've got the automatic. But once he drove it, he loved it and understood why I went manual. He has since put an ugly scratch on one of my rims so now he's CUT OFF!!

Keep it that way. It stops a lot of arguing over who is going to drive.

Rofl- I don't let mine drive it much either, but only because he wouldn't let me near his car when he bought it. Payback's a bitch!

This reminds me of when my wife and I took our test drive, salesgirl in the back seat. Of course, I drove first. She took us on a nice road that could show off the car's power as well as agility and I was able to feel the car's capabilities without really pushing it very hard.

Then it came time to turn it around and head back.

Me: Honey, do you want to drive it back?

Her: No.

Me: Yes you do! Come on. You know you do. Don't you?

Her: Well, I'm wearing these silly sandals. I better not.

Me: Just slip them off and drive barefoot, ok? Oh, common...

I pull over & get out. She grudgingly gets out & takes the driver's throne. Then the beast rears it's ugly head! She shows no mercy as she powers thru the gears, downhill, twisty, still kinda wet from a recent rain shower. What the...?!?

Me: Honey, you know, the road is still kind of wet and slippery. The car does have traction control, but I don't think it's a good idea to push it quite so hard, you know. Watch it up here, hard left...

Her: OK

Hard left, onto a level, flat empty stretch. Going pretty fast now. Probably 80 or 85. She decides to shift her into 3rd gear. What ?!?! Revs go way up there! She holds her speed though.

Salesgirl: I think you just shifted into 3rd gear... (?!)

Her: Yeah, I know...

She takes the hint and shifts it back to 5th or something. Still around 85. Approaching a hard left-right now...

Salesgirl: You know, there's some sharp turns just up here...

Her: Yeah, I know, ok...

She takes the chicane like she owns the road. Problem was, I knew she never even saw this road before I drove thru here, when it was me driving.

Ok, now we get into traffic and she has to slow down a bit.

I think that salesgirl was just as happy as me when we got her back to the dealership. She laughed when it was over as much as I was.

My wife is very well known there now. It's one of their favorite stories there, how my wife test drove that RX-8. Ha!

Great story. The salesperson tried coaxing me to push it a bit on their "nice road" When I did, I dropped it into 3rd and brought it up to 75 (in a 35) in no time - what a rush. My wife went with me on the test drive, but I couldn't convince her to test drive it. She was still upset at the time that this was my first choice over the Z. I don't think she feels that way now.

I let my GF drive my 8, i mean, did I say drive? It was more like we bucked all around the neighborhood. Won't make that mistake again.
Mom and Stepmom have both driven the car, and said the exact same thing:
"I would get in trouble in that thing!"
Mom had it going 120 on I-10, turned to me, and asked " Should I go into 5th?" Love it.
