My Keysss

I was wondering if anyone has had to have their keys to their RX-8 replaced. All sets of my keys are gone so I am going to have to get my car towed to a Mazda dealership to get this fixed. Does anyone have an idea about how much this would cost? For whatever reason, I cannot get a straight answer from the dealership. I know that a lot more work is required due to the chips that are in the keys and the computer system. Anyway, I would really like a ruff estimate at least so I can get an idea of how much I might be spending here. It's always nice to know before hand

Minimum $100, plus the keys ($50 each?)

The cars' computer needs to be connected to the Mazda Dealers' WSD computer to authorize the new keys, and I can't see them letting you out of the shop for less than that - it's all labor, so they pretty much set whatever price they like.....

There is a (relatively) simple procedure to program a new key to your car, if you already have TWO authorized keys.

So get at least two made, then you can have copies made and add them yourself.

^ That sounds about right. Getting replacement keys are always relatively expensive considering what else you could buy for your car for $100. But if you need them, you need them I guess.

Well thanks for the info. Yeah I deff need them since I have no key to the car at all anymore... I'll even have to have it towed to the dealership. Really sucks but what can I do? At least that's not as high as some people were telling me before.
