My first post, pardon me if I repeat subject(s)

First of all, I just found this site and it has been very helpful. Thanks to all of the rx8 owners out there!

first:
I wanted to find an integrated solution of my Delphi Myfi xm2go; I hate it attahced to the AC duct. I found some threads, but none specifaclly for the xm2go. If anyone can point me in the right direction, thanks in advance.

second:
I went to my dealer and they told me a rock it my condenser and it will cost $750-800 to fix. I found some threads about the AC condenser being overly exposed. I am OK with paying for the replacment parts and repairs. But, after reading about all the problems many have had there should be some kind of "truth in leanding" law(s) that applies to vehicles. I was told before my purchase that the rx8 consumes exessive oil. I still bought because I really like the look and the way it rides. If I had been told before I purchased my rx8 about the very high probability that a rock could damage the condensor, then I would have taken mesures to prevent it. I will buy one of the aftermarket grills avaliable, but it would have been nice to only spend $80-100 versus $750/800(parts and labor for AC) + $80/100(aftermarket grill)

Anyways, that's my rant. I'm glad I found this community.

Welcome to the club. Most of the folks around here are good people, so I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay overall.

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not able to help you too much with your posts, but I thought I'd offer a quick suggestion before someone gets all wound up about it. Try posting your XM problem in the aftermarket section or somewhere more specialized, you'll probably get help much faster and draw a whole lot less flak than you'll get here. Good luck with your problems, sorry to hear about that condenser problem - I should probably go grab some protection for that...

First: Welcome.

Can't help you with issue #1, I am sure there are some members on here that can and hopefully will.

With regards to the second issue, if the car is new and it is damaged, I would try the approach that it was there when you got it and that it could have come as a result of transporting it on the truck and how can you be responsible, when the dealer should have fixed it before it was delivered. If it is used, then again, you might be able to get them to do it if you have only had it for a little bit and could say it should have been fixed before you got it, that it was done by the previous owner.

One last thing. I would have them load the system with the dye and check for leaks, unless it is quite obvious that there is damage, and it is leaking there, just becuase it looks like it was hit by a rock, doesn't mean that it needs to be replaced. My .02.

ucfracerx8/rhawb thanks for the tips. I will check with the dealership to see if they can do just that. i have a 2004 and have 32k on it. Can't use the "damaged out of the box".

Check your insurance policy to see if your comprehensive will cover at least part of the replacement cost.

Actually, no. Saying the RX-8 "consumes excessive oil" is misleading. Makes it sound like there's a "problem" with the engine design or workmanship that necessitates adding more oil than would be necessary if there were no problem. (My '75 VW "consumed excessive oil" because those engines tended to have head gasket problems).

In fact, the 8 does consume a little more oil than traditional piston engines. But this is by design: "The compact, high performance RENESIS rotary engine consumes a small amount of engine oil due to its structural design. An oil pump optimizes the amount of oil injected to lubricate the rotor seals in the combustion cycle."

I am lazy, I just use the default jel tape and the car kit for my Xm2go and tape it to the passanger side. I left the car antennae on the center under the front wind shield too. But if you really want to do it right, try removing the ash tray and fit it in there. Use the tray as the base for the car dock and cut/glue the two together.

Three37ny you are correct. I stand corrected. I should have chosen better verbage. The point I was making was that sometimes disclosing issues like "oil consumption" and "no grill to cover the AC condenser" help out in keeping maintenance and repair cost down. It would not have deterred me from buying my rx8.

swoope, thanks for the idea. How is your reception with the unit laying down like that?
I am going to let the dealership do all of my repairs on the condenser. I know I should probally look at alternatives, but at this point the car only has 32k and i would like to keep it OEM.

There must be some issue here as on later 2005 models, Mazda put a screen in front of the AC condenser (see https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=2005+screen ) but no screen for the oil coolers. If you are worried about it there are several aftermarket products available like at Racing Beat (http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm).

if you look close you can see three wires going down into the console. 1 power 2 to direct to stereo 3 antena wire runs down the length of the console into trunk and sits on the front center of trunk. mag mount works great.
