My car needs new engineat 11k, How to break in replacement engine?

At 11.5k my engine was replaced. I just picked up the car and I was not given any clear instructions from the dealer on break-in procedures for the replacement engine. That is very frustrating. I did a search on the RX8 club on "break in" but I did not find anything in particular. I even read all 34 pages under the thread “8 years, 100,000 mi extended warranty”, but I did not find anything specific on the break process for the rebuilt engines.

Does anyone know the break in process for the rebuilt engines? Is it the same 1,000 mile break-in process for when the car is new?

On a side note, my Engine needing replacing because the engine was leaking coolant into the cylinders and a had horrible smell when I started it up. It turns out that smell was burning coolant. On the plus side, the new engine idles so smooth, the original one never idled that smooth. Hopefully this one will last longer than 2 ˝ years!?!

But I need to know the proper break-in procedure for hte re-built engine.

THX

Mechanics Reply

I asked the mechanic if it is the same procedure as a new engine and he said that my engine was put through a break in procedure already. He just told me not to rev it out until the engine warms up. It sounded more like an opinon than a procedure, plus I have nothing in writing. Something this important should be in writing.

About a month before the engine was replaced, the radiator overflow tank was empty. Apparently my car was burning antifreeze for a while before it got really bad.

So is it the opinion that the new engine break-in process alos applies the to rebuilt engines.

I would recommend it. Who knows how they "break" in the rebuilt engines anyways. It can't hurt to follow the procedure.

I don't know about others opinion on this, but that's what I would do.

To the OP............your car had 11k miles when the engine went. Didn't this car come with a manual? Most things you asked about are in there. If you don't have ome, then go to mazdausa.com under the owners section.........register, and download one for free.
I can't believe nobody at this point asked you if you had even read the manual. WTF?

But.....yeah, the Racing Beat break-in proceedure you will do you lots of good.

Geez, I hope they put a rotary in this time!

Yeah, RB is probably the safest course (though some don't agree, of course):

Hit the box on the upper right that says, "How to 'Break In' Your New RX-8!"
