Most embarrassing 8 moment...

Well, I was driving down a fiarly major street with cars all around. I see a silver 8 on the corner and prepare to do the good 'ol wave. As I'm driving by I wave and as I'm waving I realize it appears to be an older woman, probably in her 70s-80s. Wow was I embarrassed, she looked at me confused and I tried to pass it off as if I was scratching my head.

Anybody else have any embarrassing 8 moments or am I the only fool...

edit: Her confusion while looking at me was what made it awkward. Still remember it to this day, lol...

I don't understand. An old woman in an 8 doesn't deserve a wave?

Even Grannys can go Zoom Zoom

Also remember...that granny was once a hot chick to some teenager boxing his clown under the sheets thinking about her. Now THAT's a scary thought!!

HAH! you have made my morning with that term "Boxing his clown" I'm sitting here eating oreos for breakfast before work and i nearly spit one across the room from the laughter at that term.

My most embarrasing moment? There have been about 3 times I'm flying down the highway and im going for 3rd gear but dont pull back far enough and do a grind at high RPM THankfully its on the highway and probably no one heard it.

My most embarrassing 8 moment has actually happened a couple of times. My stupid gearbox is almost impossible to get into reverse, to the point where I have to rock the car back and forth a couple of times to get it to connect . A couple of times I had thought I was in reverse as is looks the same, but all you can hear is a horrible grinding sound when you step on the gas.

Talk about embarrassing when it happens in public. I've actually been approached and asked if I knew how to drive a manual vehicle. Seeing as how all I've driven is manual since 16 (I'm 26 now), I don't think that's the issue.

you know you have to push down on the shifter so you can get into reverse right?

Of course. What do you think, I've been going into 6th the whole time and that's why it's not activating?

It's a common problem on RX-8's. It's because there's no synchro for the reverse gear, although some have more difficulty than others. Unfortunately, mine is one of the more difficult ones.

Hey, you never know. There was a person who didn't know this and started a thread about it.

I've never had a problem getting my car into reverse. It's smooth as silk.

Ever try putting it in first or second, then into reverse? Seems to line up the syncros better.

I've done the reverse gear thing too. I've found that if I pull back on the shifter while letting the clutch out it will pop into reverse (if it's not there already) This technique has stopped the embarrassment.

the most embarrassing thing I have done is to leave the windows down but the doors locked. I walk out early in the morning to go to work and reach in, unlock the door, and open it. HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! ....**** where are my keys ... HONK! HONK! ... crap I left them inside the house ... HONK! HONK! Yea my neighboors loved that one I'm sure.

I'll try that. Hopefully it will help out.

And I normally do put the car into first and rock forward to help line up the syncro better. It works most of the time, but not all of the time. I just hate it when it looks and feels like it's in gear, but it's on the cusp and grinds instead. Now what I do is concentrate when going into reverse and listen for the connection, and until I hear it, I don't begin driving.

My 2006 Scion did something similar; I would give it just a touch of the gas and it would pop into reverse.

Yeah, my dad's 1984 4 + 3 Corvette did the same thing. A bit of gas, and no problem shifting into gear. I keep forgetting to do that....I'll try it out and see if it helps.

back to the embaressing moments, i saw an 8 today and boy did she have a tail. man i wish i had my phone on me, it was somewhere in the car (you know cornering) that picture would have been picture of the year for this website. the gurly geek was drivingn with A GAZ NOZZLE, and the pipe was touching the ground. i drove up to her and told her that she won't be saving any gas by doing so..... she looked all confused, and i wanted to make things clearer so i told her honey you took the gas station with you. she looked more confused so she flicked me off and took off.... hey i tried ha ha

Try drifting on ice and hitting a curb in a parking lot with a hot chick in the passenger.
I was more scared I did damage than embarrased, but still embarrased none the less!
And trying to put it in reverse for the 1st time with the gf and my sister in the car with some onlookers. Had to look in the car manual.

hmm, approached a stop sign at small mall strip. Forgot there was a small incline on the stop sign, traffic both ways are cleared, and i'm about to make a turn left.....vroom, putt, stalled!! LOL. Then i look ahead, some lady in her 40s, just looked at me and she shook her head with a smirk on her face, like u drive stick but stalled haha, so then i started back up, then went .

The day i picked up the car, first light, no problem, got off the line no problem, 2nd light, left turn only arrow. Arrow turns green, Forgot that i had it in 1st gear, released the clutch too fast, stalled. Had cars behind me honking.....and an S2000 at the opposite side of traffic was smiling, knew what was up lol.

Then entering my garage the first day,,,,,stalled 2x =)

^^^ Don't feel bad, the first time I ever drove stick I remember it pefectly. Had to back out of an awkward garage and stalled at least 15 times.

Actually this was my most embarrassing moment. I was test driving a RX with a stick, I grew up driving stick but because of some job changes and car swapping with the wife I spent the last 3 years driving auto.

So I'm test driving the RX with both kids in the rear and hit a side street to turn around. At the next side street intersection I decide to u turn it and came up a little short. I through the car into reverse (at least I thought it was reverse) and the car moves forward. Huh, I try it again and the same thing. One more try and the same thing except by now the car is slowly inching towards the drainage ditch. The kids are asking way we're going off the road, I'm swearing at the gear box then it dawned on me...push down for reverse. I literally had to gun it in rears so I didn't end up in the ditch. The kids are laughing yelling do it again.

i was on a first date with a girl i had been wanting to date for a while. we were leaving Sonic at my hometown in Selma and there is a slight hill up to a red light after you turn out of the Sonic. While running my mouth the light changes and I go to take off, clunk, stall. I play it off by saying "that doesn't happen often" then go to crank the car and it takes forever before it catches up. maybe only 5 seconds in reality but 5 years to me. she looks at me and says "that's not suppose to happen either is it." couldn't do anything but laugh.

Took a mate for a quick ride down to the store in the wet . Thinking I would demonstrate my drifting skills I turned off DSC (first mistake).
As I hit a 90 degree corner in 1st gear I planted it to get the tail out only to find that I was very quickly pointing at the curb . So I let got the pedal completely (2nd mistake) . The car flicked around the opposite direction instantly & before I knew it I was hurtling down the wrong side of the road backwards - over the curb & into someones garden .

My mate has never let me forget it . this is the only time I ever lost control of the 8 & he happens to be the biggest blabbermouth on the planet .................
