some other countrys have lights in that place.... looks like your plastic cover came off.... pm me if you want info on the lights... you can get them in the states..

they are tied in with you overhead lights and dim just like them..

They are actually puddle lights and switch on and off with the interior lights when you unlock the car or open the door. They are standard on the JDM 8s.
