Maintence cost?
i just brought my 8 in for its first service today and I was quoted around $95 for the first service... is that about right?
I thought that was mighty expensive for an oil change, oil filter and tire rotation... how much roughtly are you guys paying for your maintanence if you have yours done at the dealer?

I was charged $30 for oil change.
Tire rotation.. you can do that yourself in about 10 mins with one jack. Just swap front with back (they are one way tires so you can't swap sides)

yeah exactly what i thought, so I dunno wots going on here???
i'm heading in later today to pick up the car, i definitely wont agree to $95 for a 7500mile service...
i pulled an online service manual and for the 1st service its just change oil and filter, clean air filter, lubricate locks and hinges... that cannot be $95, even if they throw in the tire rotation...

You got taken like many do by a typical dealer service. My dealer gave me some VIP card for 10 $19.95 oil changes and ten free tire rotations, along with one free wash and detail. I wonder if it's really free, or if I have to get some other bogus service. I'll find out, but hell, no way I am shelling out $30 for an oil change. It's easy enough to do yourself, and costs around $8. I don't like those extra things added in on their recommended service plans. I may have to avoid dealer because I know I'll take it in the *** like you did. I'll be trading my car in before it needs any real maintanence anyway, so to hell with them.

Lots of us get that service for free! There's some benefit to being one of the first to buy the car. Actually, it's part of the deal with the early over-rated HP issue. Until the middle of August last year, the RX-8 was advertised as having a HP rating of 247. In August, Mazda reduced the HP rating to 238. To compensate people who'd bought their RX-8s before that date, they offered to either buy back the car for the full purchase price, or if you kept the car, they gave a $500 debit card and free service for the warranty period. So, all of us original buyers from before September 2003 get free service.
Of course, when you figure that all of us who are getting the free service paid MSRP or nearly MSRP, then compared to buying for near invoice and having to pay for service - you guys are ahead of us! :D
Regards,
Gordon

well just got back from the dealer, total was $101 + tax = 108. The break down was $78 for labor, the rest was oil, oil filter and disposal fee for the oil.
what got done, oil/filter change, tire rotation and car wash and ofcourse mazdas 'full circle' inspection yadda yadda - which doesnt include a kiss (thats a good thing Hou-TX-RX8)
anyways, before i left to pick up the car, i did some searchin on mazdausa/mymazda.com and i saw "car care coupons" and I found one for my dealer "Pre-Vacation Summer Service" which was $49.95... i showed them the coupon and they adjusted the cost, basically half off... so in the end, not that bad... but still pretty $$
