Lost Rx-8 Key

Lost Rx-8 Key
Hey everyone,
I lost the key and remote door lock to my car. The lost key threads i've seen when I search, have to deal with making new keys/remotes. I'm more worried about the fact that someone else now has access to my car. Is there any way to invalidate the old remote, other than replacing the whole ECU?
Thanks,
Brandon

There is an option to erase all remotes and keys from memory. Are you having the dealer code your new keys/remotes? Just ask them to clear all old ones for you. I don't think you can just clear one remote & key....I think you need a minimum of two each. So you can't just clear the one you lost and be done with it....you'll need a replacement set first.

If there wasn't any ID, do you think someone finding the key will be able to figure out it's to your car?

Wouldnt trust it even if it didnt have any identification. Ive heard stories about people just driving around pressing the unlock button on stolen keys. Suddenly they get lucky, smaller towns I guess, but still

Rotary-RX - It's not the flip key, so I guess it's the advanced keyless.
ken-x8 - Just the Mazda key and FOB on that chain. Oh ya, and the gift my wife got me for christmas last year. A yellow die cast rx8. :-(
jrx13 - I still have another regular key, another FOB and a valet key.
I disable the car when I get out these days. So basically I need to take it to the dealer to remove all the keys and FOB's, and then re add the ones I still have?

Just thought I'd bump this thread to maybe help out.
It'll cost you about a grand to have a dealer ship your BCM(the passive RFID challenge/response chip is in BCM and links to ECM through a 5 wire bus interface) off to get the key-generator value changed. It's actually an 8 bit value in the resource section of the chip firmware, and is changed through a re-flashing protocol only given to dealers by Megamos(the maker of most Mazda RFID chips).
There is no easy tool or anything like there is for TI based RFID keys. You have to program your own fobs and keys with a valid BCM, and you have to pay a grand to get it reset. It's also still about 800 bucks just to get new keys added without resetting.
Last I checked there still wasn't any tool for key cloning that you didn't have to be a licensed dealer to get, and then they were 4k plus.
