Looking for an R3...help?
So I currently have an 04 6spd. But...I'm looking to pickup an R3...I'm curious as to a few things...
1) What is the difference between going R3 or non-R3? I know the wheels are 19s but is that really all?
2) If I'm looking to drop the rotary engine out right off the bat...is there any benefit to go R3?
Any help is appreciated!!

Since the differences between the R3 and other trim levels has already been covered, I'll address you're second point. If you are planning on replacing the engine with something a little less-triangle shaped (i.e. not a rotary), there is extensible no benefits in going for an R3 spec RX8. If you can afford an engine transplant the addition of racing seats (recaro or otherwise), custom valved shocks and whatever wheels you prefer are most likely just a drop in the bucket.
If you're planning on obtaining an RX8 and immediately replacing the engine you would probably be better off just obtaining the cheapest rust free, non-damaged RX8 you can find.

Um . . . if you are going to swap out the engine (something that is very costly) you may as well find the cheapest SII you can get as you will need to replace all the upgraded features of the R3 aside from the seats. I can think of 50 better cars to do an LS swap into that wouldn't ruin the point of the car and would cost less.
