Looking to join the club
Hi Guys,
I'm looking to join the club! But first will need to know a couple of things.
I currently have a Honda Civic 1.8l i'm looking to upgrade to an RX8. i'm looking at a 2008 model and have been a big fan of the car since I was a teen.
Before i make the jump there are a couple of things I need to consider however:
- Fuel Consumption - how does this compare to the Civic 1.8? I'm a mostly conservative driver (unless i'm in the mood to play) and usually refuel once every 6 to 7 days with the Civic. I'm obviously prepared to pay more, the question is how much more.
- Maintenance. Given that the RX8 i'm looking at is pretty aged. What are the estimated maintenance costs like and before purchasing the car what are the problem areas I should look out for beside the usual (oil leakage, belt timing, electronics..etc).
End of the day what I'm really interested in knowing is what the increase in upkeep an RX8 will be compared to a Civic 1.8l
Thanks for the advice in advanced, this will be a big help to me.

Welcome, you've come to the right place. Also, lol you said timing belt.
You need to become very familiar with this thread:

Basically, if all goes well the maintenance cost should be the same or lower than the Civic. The problem is you can ignore parts of the Civic, but you can't ignore this car. And you need to buy it from someone who had the same mentality.
If things don't go well, the costs can escalate quickly.
