Long time since I've shown up....

Hey everyone, for those who don't remember or have a clue I worked for the Mazda remanufacturing plant rebuilding the rx8 and rx7 engines. I was a parts guy for 6 months then moved to main assembly and rebuilt them for the rest of my time. Probably rebuilt 3000+ engines in my time, about 15 rx7's. I put up a few pictures in the past, they ask me to lay low so i dont get myself in trouble pretty much so I disappeared.

Just wanted to say I am retired as of July, stay at home dad now, wife is a doctor now after going to school the whole time I was working there. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your information it really taught me a lot in the process of learning my job and understanding the engine, I could only learn so much through translation of the mazda japan trainer. Wish you all good luck, hopefully things improved for your remanufactured engines it was a learning process for that facility the first few years but they have it together now(hopefully).

Horrible last day of work, boss tells me they had Mazda of Canada's 68' Cosmo engine arrive on my last day and that they have to rebuild it....aka I would've rebuilt it since I was the only person to touch the RX7's. Its all good, I get my son all day and how many people are retired at 31.

Thanks
Sleepy-z

yeah thats where the issue is......separation package is why I left. I was going to leave by the end of the year anyways because daycare was a pain between the wife and I and I didn't make a whole lot more then it costs. They offered a package to everyone in the company to save money instead of firing a few people here and there. I signed a agreement to not give out information blah blah blah. I basically got paid to quit, I was quitting anyways so it was like xmas for me, they didn't love that I took it but its not rocket science learning all that, you just have to have a desire to learn what your doing and it comes to you. I was offered a Q&A job though in Irvine, CA though last winter to tear down faulty engines but I looked at the boss and said....ummmm will it pay as much as a doctor because I am certain she is headed down the more important career path.

So in other words no, I cant say anything really, I paid off her credit card for all the plane trips and interviews with that money so I dont want to hear from them again.

Oh and sorry central VA rotary guys, they cut off access to the RX8's to take home after some issues with them and the people borrowing them so I couldn't get to any drives. You may catch me at a car show though, I sold my z32 and shipped my 280z out here from cali so I occasionally take my son to car shows.

Good Luck to you and thanks for the information that you gave us while you still could. I'm on my 4th engine in the car and I believe it came from your location. It has lasted twice as long as any of the other engines, including the original, which had problems at 13k miles.

That sucks you cannot share, I bet you would have a lot of good info. I got my second reman (third engine) at 96,000 miles and it only lasted 30,000 miles before it nearly failed (caught the issue early in an oil analysis) from a faulty coolant seal. When Pineapple Racing documented the tear down the housings were in terrible shape and according to them were probably pretty bad to begin with and there was a bad coolant seal allowing combustion into the coolant jacket.

In VA for 4 more years then somewhere west, not a fan of the weather here. I wont do engines on the side, I actually messed up my shoulder a little torquing so many bolts. We dont use automatic torque wrenches, its all by hand/arm. 18 tension bolts 10-15 times a day for 4+ years and you will aggravate some nerves if not tear something. Also I dont have the equipment to do it, I have a 1 car garage with a datsun, ferrari pedal car, bikes and another son coming in January. My hands are full of kids, when I have the money I may do an engine myself for fun but I am 4 years from her making anything and she doesn't want me to work at all anyways lol.
