Under the "Mazda Service Transportation Solution" it reads:

"Of course, even repairs without charge still mean that the dealer has your car. We know there's never a good time to be without your wheels, and with the Mazda Transportation Solution, you won't have to be. Repairs under warranty will no longer keep you off the road. Take your car in for warranty work at a participating Mazda dealership, and you can get a loaner car at no charge. Just ask. You won't have to arrange your day around a repair schedule, ask friends for rides, or catch up on your magazine reading while you wait..."

The way I read this is that if you take your car in for warranted repairs, they give you a loaner. When I took mine in for some warranty work, I asked about a loaner and the dealership said only if it's overnight. Of course they offer a shuttle drop off and pick up from the dealer which still causes problems with schedules and such.

Is this what everyone else is experiencing? Am I reading this wrong and expecting too much? OR, do the words "participating Mazda dealership" qualify this service and, perhaps, my dealership doesn't participate?

Can anyone tell me what they get at their dealership in terms of this service?

When I had my spoiler installed, I was given a red loaner rx8. Probably because I was pretty pissed off that I had paid for the spoiler when I bough the car, and the spoiler showed up 2 months later. My salesman recommended I make an appointment with so-and-so to install it because he had the most experience. So I take off work and, per his advice, make an appointment with so-and-so technician. Well when I get to the dealership, I learn that my salesman decided to take the day off. Then I asked about the technician I was advised to see, and he also had taken the day off. So that really pissed me off because I had to take off work to make the appointment only to learn that those two jokers had taken the day off as well. Well they calmed me down with a loaner rx8 :D

Anyways...addressing your original question, I was given a rental car for warranty repairs. Mazda pays for a majority of the rental, and leaves you to pay a small portion (about 3 bucks a day or something). You pay for extra insurance, if desired. The repairs took about 3 days and 4 nights because of parts. I can understand them not wanting to give you a rental car for half a day, but I think they should have given you some kind of a loaner car. In other words, I'd say the dealership screwed you.

I just realized you're the guy that I've been talking to in PMs about the lying salesman and ********* at the dealership. It sounds to me like the dealership you use is bad news. Everytime they give you any problems, I'd call MNAO. I find it hard to believe that you're the only person they keep screwing.

They should give you one, but there's no guarantees on what you'll get- just ask 9kRever what HE was driving the beginning of this week while his 8 was in for the recalls!

As long as it's not a bycycle...LOL Yeah, I have some issues with my dealer and I am not one to just sit around and take it. I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more! That was a direct quote from a movie, can't remember it's exact name, though.

one good thing about my dealer is he gives me a loaner everytime. its usually not that old of a car but some things dont work like the radio once, the engine light was on in another, etc.

I believe it was a Dodge Ram1500 Quad Cab they gave him- he'll probably chime in later. So almost as bad as a bicycle.

A Dodge RAM 1500 Quad Cab isn't so bad, I traded in a Dakota extended cab for my 8. However, it's still wheels and no mini-van ride from hell with a driver that could do nothing but talk talk talk.

There's a phone number to call MNAO???? I'm just getting around to filling out survey for buying my car and are they going to get flamed along with an extended letter of how they lied and deceited me.

I just got off the phone with MNAO customer service and here is what the rep said. You definitely should receive a rental if repairs will keep your car over night. If it's in the range 4-6 hours then it seems left to the discretion of the individual dealerships whether to give you a freebie. He then quickly countered that if you felt you needed a car and especially since I purchased a new vehicle that if the offending dealership declined to loan me a car that MNAO would contact that dealership and arrange a free rental for me.

Most of the dealerships around here have a deal with Enterprise and a few others to have loaners for customers. The dealer pays $25 a day. When my RX-7 is in for maintenance at Rosenthal Mazda in Tyson's Corner, I get a free rental whether they have it one day or several. I have a personal dislike for Enterprise so Rosenthal also has the same deal with Thrifty to provide me a car when needed. Since my RX-7 is almost twenty years old, warranty has nothing to do with it. Some places believe in customer service, some don't.

Every dealer I have dealt with has this policy:

:If you buy the vehicle new at that dealer, free loaners during service (if you schedule ahead). The local Mazda dealer does that, and even adds the free loaners for any service as long as you own the vehicle (even past warranty).
Regardless of where you buy a vehicle, if it needs warranty service done that requires the vehicle to be kept over night at the dealer, they must provide you with a loaner.<< but this will vary by brand. I have never had any problem with loaners at the Mazda dealer. Crud, I even had one loaner Protege for over a week as they addressed several issues- including paint issues- on my last B3000. Absolutely no cost to me- BUT, this also depends on if your current insurance covers anything you drive. Mine does. :-)

loaner when it was in overnight once. this time, tomorrow, for the recall work i am just using their shuttle because i work about 1 mile away. they'll send the shuttle back for me when it's done. if they dont get it done iby the end of the day i'll get a loaner for the night. they have a deal with enterprise also. BE CAREFUL! when you sign for the loaners dont get screwed like i did. even though i know better somehow the slick Enterprise guy got me to sign for the insurance. $20.00 down the toilet. they won't get me again with that CRAP!!

How did Enterprise, who I really think does have a contract with all mazda dealerships, screw you into buying insurance? Didn't you just tell them that you already have it and that it covers rentals? or did yours not cover rentals? I had a friend have that same thing happen to him, and he said that the coverage was worth it for the 3 days he had it. It was like 30 bucks for any damage up to a total loss, and he wouldn't have to pay his $500 deductibe or have Enterprise file a claim with his INS if something happened to the rental. Go figure, what gives, cause I know I'll be having my 8 in for service now that I bought one and I'm interested to know.....

but heritage just took over and they said no rental for one day service--I didn't have time to argue while at work-but I will argue later

I received a loaner car when I took mine in for the air bag recall fix (which ended up taking them about 15 minutes). I went to work and traded back the loaner at lunch. They were very happy to provide it, no questions asked.

I took my rx8 in Tuesday (march 9th) for the two recalls (airbag and dynamic damper), two dealer installs (shock alarm sensor and front splash guards) and oil change. They gave me a loaner without me even having to ask, and lady coudln't say whether it would be done in a day or not, so I need to take loaner. It's still not done, but they called, and said I can keep loaner until car is repaired. I got a brand new 2004 Corolla LE. Not too bad of a rental, since it is nicely loaded. I expect to get a call sometime on Wednesaday (the 10th) saying my car is done. For all I know they got overbooked and couldn't get to my car, or with the two recalls and dealer installs, they simply didn't have enough time to complete it. Down road when car is older, I am not sure I will get this service, but on new car purchases and dealer installs, my dealer will give you a loaner no matter how long or short the service is.

I got lucky....when mine was in for the tranny...they gave me a new RX-8....but it was a automatic....I still beat the hell out of it.

One thing to remember, it is in the auto manufacturer's best interest to give free loaners to customers needing warranty service. Why? Because most lemon laws do not count the days of warranty service when the customer is given an equivelent loaner vehicle towards the total days of warranty service in the lemon law buyback regulations.

no loaner for me...i have an appointment next Thursday and they said it will take about 1.5 hours once it gets into the shop...guess i'll be wondering around the lot driving different cars....although it is a mega dealership with Mitsub there..i think i'll trash an EVO..hehehe

We have taken our RX8 in twice, once for a warrenty wheel repair and once for the "L" reflash and air bag recall. Both times, even though they only needed the car for a short while, they gave my wife a loaner car. Mazda 3 ?? and a Mazda 6. Don Miller Mazda in Madison has been first class.

I just dropped my 8 off at Arlington Mazda for the air bag recall and maybe the L reflash and they gave me a credit slip for an Enterprise rental for the day. No problems, no questions. Of course I'm driving a Ford Focus POS, but it will get me around for the day. (And this isn't even the dealer I bought the car from.)
