First of all i have been following this fourm for a year now and i always check up to read up on the rx8 and stuff. I want to thank ALL YOU GUYS for your stickies and threads on how to maintain and take care of rx8.

Now as my post said I just bought my rx8 two days ago! (YAY ME the rx8 is MY FAVORITE CAR and my DREAM CAR despite it's problems) I got an 05 rx8 "shinka edition" with 65k miles. Car fax was clean owner did service regularly.

Now i didn't even have the car for a day and as soon as i drove it off the lot few miles away from the dealer the car STALLED at the light ... I was pissed! Next day i took it to the dealer on the way it stalled 5 times and misfired on me when ill hit the gas. The dealer went ahead and replaced my coils,spark plugs, and they put new cat to be safe they drove it and it still stalled LOL. So i get a call and they said ill be getting a new engine. Now i see the pain some of you guys have gone through with this same issue and I now understand.

So my real question is if i get the new engine soon and my car still has the same issue (which i hope it doesn't) what else can be left?


Also although the rx8 is a shinka edition i thought the shinka editions ONLY came in that cherry purple color and not red metallic like mine?

1. Do you have any pics of your car? An 05 Shinka was only sold in Black Cherry.

2. I don't think that the stalling issue has anything to do with a new engine. However, if that's what the dealer says, then go for it!

3. Are you getting any CEL's?

I have one pic i couldn't really take more pics of my baby because it was night and i only had her for one day before i took her back =( and yea i figured the shinka only came in as a black cherry color.

i get NO CELs although when they checked in on the computer they got some misfire codes even though the CEL light wasn't on.

Well i would say they already replaced new coils,plugs,and cat and now they say they going to put new engine.

And nope i haven't paid a dime for ANY of these things because im guessing i JUST bought the car so it can be considered a lemon

What are your thoughts here RX8Soldier?
Sounds like it could be low compression to me. I believe the OP said they changed all the usual suspects, coils, plugs, cat.

You thinking O2 sensor, Maf or ESS?

Congratulations on the new car!

I know exactly how you feel. I bought my FE and exactly a week later I took it in for an oil change and they found that I needed a new engine.

And no, that's not a 05 shinka.
No matter what year shinka is it, it should have a shinka logo on the B pillar.

It's not the driver TRUST me the car shutting off at the light after being ran hard isn't because of me. Well anyways just got back from the dealer they gave me a loaner (mazda 3 lol ) Getting a new engine so basically getting new car they gave me new coils/plugs/wires/ and cat new engine would take about a week to ship they told me and few days to put in.

Anywho i hope after the new engine the car doesn't stall anymore. Also i need one quick help the radio on the rx8 isn't stock (grr i loved the stock radio on the 8's believe it or not) Im trying to figure out how to change the red light display over the AC it says "METRAS RX8" I looked through the manual and i read on here that you can change it by holding the ac vent button i told the mazda people that and they looked at me with the most stupidest face ever lol

I didn't get a loaner when they installed my new engine!

..probably because I said "Good thing I have another car." after they said they needed my FEfor a week and a half to do the repairs.

lol they're the stupid ones. Indeed, that's how you change it. Gotta hold it for a while though. You'll notice the menus will cycle through, and to change the title is the very last option.
