Just bought one!

Hi everybody. I just bought a 2004 black rx8. Only had 22000 miles. Love it! I have a few questions if someone would be willing to answer them.

First, my red lcd display has some weird speckling on it. I tried scrubbing, but it didn't help at all. I wonder if its on the inside. It has kind of a bubbly look. Is there any way to take it out so I can check it?

Also, sometimes when I put the car in reverse and release the clutch, it makes a strange winding noise and the car doesn't move. If I put it in nuetral and back in reverse, it works again. It doesn't happen often. But enough to make me wonder. Thanks in advance.

first time I drove the 8 I couldnt put it into reverse because I didn't realize there was a safety that stopped you from putting it in reverse unless you pressed down on the shifter....dont know if thats the problem or if it has something to do with your tranny

The dealer may have oversprayed some armorall to remove dust, it's on there for good, scrubbing it with plastix will remove a thin layer of plastic (I think Acrylic) but will leave behind some scrub marks in exchange for clear view.

I have the same problem with reverse on my 05. You have to push the shifter in, then down. Even then, it sometimes doesn't engage right and I get the grinding noise. Once you get used to it, you can "feel" the shifter pop into reverse.

I do what someone on here told me to do and it has worked a couple time since then. When putting car in reverse hold the shifter there when you let out the clutch the shifter will move a little bit and the gear will engage with no winding or grinding.

You just need sometime to get used to put reverse in. I had the same problem with you at the beginning but soon I got better. Welcome to the club and hope you enjoy the car!

Here are some pics of the specks. Mazda dealer said $206 plus labor for red lcd, $25 plus labor for the gauge cover.

I have the problem with reverse randomly. You get used to tell when you put it towards reverse, if it doesn't fully engage. For me to resolve it. I take it out of gear, let out the clutch, push clutch in, put it in first, take it back out of gear, let out the clutch, push clutch in, put it in reverse. usually goes in straight away.

My god, that sounds SO much more complicated than it does actually doing it.

*EDIT* The LCD and guages just looks like the cover is dirty on the inside? It doesn't seem too expensive, I'd let em fix it.

*Edit2* Oh, PLUS labor...hope that isn't what kills you for the hundreds.
