Insurance adjuster decided to total my car

Long story Short i hit a animal while on my way to work and all my coolant was leaking out so i had it towed to Jeff Haas Mazda in Houston, Texas. That's when they said it was the radiator "ok fix" i called my insurance to let them know what was going on, the next thing i know mazda is saying i need a new motor because the coolant is spraying out the spark plug hole "wow" Well today i get a call from the lady at mazda saying that the adjuster wrote my car off as totaled....SMDH i asked them how much would it cost for the motor and installation she said $5500. Can i just cancel the claim and come out the pocket? I want to keep my 8 but i dont want it too be under "SALVAGE TITLE"

I believe the short answer is no. Once the claim has been filed I'm pretty sure you can't "cancel" it. If you love your car that much buy it back from them, take the settlement amount fix it and live with the title change. Or you can let them have it and start over again. If that's your car in the photo, it is nice and I know it sucks (same thing happened to my Lincoln), but that's how the system works. If you have receipts for all your mods, make sure you present those to get paid for them as well. There is a thread around here somewhere about how to get the most out of an insurance claim. I suggest looking for it and using it to your advantage. Good luck man, sorry to hear about that.

The value of RX-8's is so low that having a salvage title won't mean much anyway. Just check on insuring a salvage titled car first. If they are offering you a fair amount just take the money and buy another RX-8.

This one needs to be put out of its misery anyway.

Check our vendors here. They are the only ones I trust.
Also check the re-builders that are on the forum.

They are from down south of me, they have been around for many years and have a good reputation. No one can really figure out how he does the rebuilds so cheap but I have heard nothing but good things about them.

He'll get a check for 6, after he pays off the 3 he owes still, so he's in the black by only 3 grand. I'd take the 3, then see what they want to buy the car back. Maybe they'll be in the 800 to 1200 range.
