New Guy

I have had a lot of questions but I always seem to find the answer before I have to post (I USE THE SEARCH BUTTON. lol.) So I figured I had to make some kind of post.

I bought a green 2004 RX8 GT 2 months ago.

Since then I have put on the racing beat catless midpipe, new ceramic brake pads, new shocks, PIE adapter w/ iPod shuffle attached to the dash, had to replace the trunk weather stripping, lugs and various bolts/nuts/caps found missing on a used car.

I am planning on getting the steering wheel dyed to fix the wear caused by the previous owner.

*Pictures coming soon*

Anyway I am loving it.

Congrats on the car.

It surprises me how many people are completely unfamiliar with the car. Mine has become quite the conversation piece lately. In the last two days I've had three people come and ask what it is. The conversations go something like "Whoa, what is that? Is it as fast as it looks?"

Congrats also. I love this darn car.

I hear that man. I had some dude come up to me in a parking lot and say, "That's a beautiful car.....What is it?" After telling him the usual list of stuff rotary engine and all that he responded, "I think its more pretty than my Mustang."

welcome and congrats. Before you die the steering wheel use these two products. Sometimes the leather can be conditioned back to a great finish.

I've never posted a picture, other than the dealer pics, so here's mine, out in the wild with it's big brother.

back again! I experienced several problems with the car but I was able to resolve them using the search function, a few dollars, and some sweat. UNTIL NOW!

The driver's side door will not lock/unlock with the keyless entry. I am thinking about taking it to the dealer and just biting the expensive bullet. But first I need new tires.

Pretty soon I won't be able to afford the grave this car is digging me.

Helppppp !

So. I know about the RX8 flood issues but I think I have a different situation than is described in most complaints.

My car always 100% cold starts. If I drive the car 5 minutes, park it for 20 minutes, it will start up again.

If I drive the car for 20 minutes and park it for 5 minutes, it will not start!

The most common places it likes to not start is in front of the gas pump or in front of the mini mart - any place where I would only be parked for 5 minutes or so.

I have tried making sure I hit red line every time I drive the car and that has not helped. I have tried rolling into the gas station in 1st gear like a ricer to keep the RPM high before I shut the car off. Doesn't work.

I have thought about revving the car past 3k every time I turn it off. I don't think I can accept that as a permanent solution if it does work.

how many miles are on your engine?
When was the last time you changed plugs/ coils?
Have you had the compression tested?

I am going to replace the starter.

Plugs and coils are only a year old. The car has 102k miles on it.

I agree with some other people who think that if it's a compression problem then you would notice other symptoms such as power loss.

Once you have the starter out have it checked out before replacing it. Pep boys does it for free and maybe autozone also.

Get a compression check, warm start issues usually mean an engine rebuild is imminent. Being over 100k miles also means you are out of engine warranty.

I am still very skeptical about every other post I read that says "your engine is blown" when I have no other issues besides warm starts.

I was curious about the starter solenoid but I think that would also cause cold start problems.

I noticed you said "rebuild", I am assuming most people actually mean that instead of the more commonly used word "replace".

holy crap. I replaced the starter today. The difference is retarded. The car now starts up in half a second cold or hot.

So it has been awhile since I posted. I wanted to ask some people to check out my list of modifications. I plan on going turbo but I wanted to get all the subsystems in place first.

A list of modifications can be found in my signature plus a few I left out
- Replaced starter with an upgraded unit
- Replaced motor mounts
- Replaced 2 gears and all synchronizers and seals in transmission

From what I can tell there isn't much to do besides turbo.

Upgrade MAF housing?
Nitrous? I have a led foot so I will probably blow myself to pieces

I have read about oil/fuel starvation problems with our cars or something, idk if this should be addressed before or during the turbo upgrade.

oh and it's a 2004 original engine 106k miles on it and nothing but 5w20. So I am not really a big believer in filling your windshield fluid bottle with lawn mower fuel.
