im back!!

hi all, sorry i havent been online all week. been driving all over town showing off my carr (the yellow "zoom zoom" in the pics in the southern california meet pictures). i am back now and will check vins next week. sorry for the delay. the car is great. a few complaints though;
1) the car looks great the way it is, i wanted to add side graphics and a spoiler, but i think it will ruin it.
2) it is hard to drive because everybody slows down to look at it, i was stuck a few times unable to switch lanes because the person next to me wanted to look at it.
3) wife is jealous because alot of women keep asking me about it (not really a complaint from me, but from my wife)
but seriosly it is a great car. we both really enjoy it. and the nav system is a great little enhancement, lots of fun. i will never get lost agian! it does run hot and you can feel it insde the cockpit but that is what the ac is for i have no problems with seeing ou the mirors at all (i also really like the automatic interior rear view mirror) i am VERY HAPPY with my car! i think mazda has a winner!

A quick question what do you mean runs Hot, are u talking about the proximity of the engine to passenger compartment or does the engine run hot

I'm in N.Cal and the temp is around 103 in the day and when you open the hood it's a good idea to grab the foam on the hood stay.
When I pull into my garage the cooling fan(s) run for quite a while longer than I have ever seen.
Lots of heat soak!

the interior gets hot from the engine. the engine does not run too hot from the temp gauge. though i did notice the fan ran a few miutes afer i turned the car off. i think it is because the engine is so close to the cockpit.

That does not surprise me, it would make sense that engine prox to the cabin would cause some heat. I wonder if that has anything to do with why they did not put a Climate control sys on these things. My miata runs a tad hot as well, I get a lot of heat through the shitfter in the summer with air on and hot days here in sunny FLa

We discussed this at the SoCal meet, where the center console area gets pretty toasty.

Concur with the heat factor. Besides ambient temp in the cabin being warm, if you turn the fan on (without AC) the air blown in will be heated. So you almost have to run the AC if you use the fan. One more knock for gas mileage.

On the positive side, wind noise from open windows and sunroof are almost nil. My son opened up the sunroof but I had to look to see that it was really open. At freeway speed! The youth review is that the cool factor of the car increases significantly with the sunroof open. It tilts up and back above the roof and is very prominent.

The rearview mirror is great, one less thing to bother with. How about the gauges! Everyone loves the look of the "dayglo". I found out that if you put the brightness all the way up the gauges will even "dayglo" with the headlights on. I remember seeing a complaint about being able to see the gauges duirng the day with headlights on.

Did any good suggestions come up with how to deal with this? I really believe that if I were to keep a iced drink in the cup holder on the center console, I'd have a warm drink in about half hour. And frozen dinners could be ready to eat when you get home, if you were to put your groceries in the trunk, although that would be a stretch :D

Nope. Mazda does put auto climate control in the RX-8 - they just don't offer it in North America. It is available on the RX-8 in some other markets.

not to beat a dead horse, but........

for anyone who did not catch this the first time.

ROTARIES RUN HOTTER THAN PISTON POPPERS

So, any heat you feel from the interior or under the car or in the engine compartment will feel warmer than to that which you are accustomed. And that is WITHOUT a turbo. Once you strap on the "blowers" it gets even hotter.

it is normal
get used to it
deal

this IS NOT A PROBLEM

I don't think anyone is claiming the car is malfunctioning. We are just comparing our early observations of the car, and posting for the benefit of those who haven't driven one yet. the interior ambient temp is pretty noticeable, though I realize for a rotary this should be no big surprise.

Then this would makes sense for those complaining that the AC isn't as good as their other cars. Maybe the AC runs just as well, but because the cabin is naturally warmer than most other cars, it just *seems* like the AC isn't as cold. I don't have my car yet so I can't be sure. Just an idea.

The fan running after you turn it off is timed. A note at the bottom of one of the pages in the owners manual says approximately 10 minutes once the temp switch is set. I'm at 475 miles since last Monday, still love every second I'm in it.

I am in Florida and it was in the 90's this weekend. I didn't put my A/C fan over 2 the whole weekend except for a few minutes to first cool it down. I also noticed the heat around the shifter though.
