If at first you don't succeed...

What's up everyone? I'm finally going to be apart of the RX8 community. I'm driving 16 hours round-trip Saturday to pick it up. It's and '06 phantom blue with 20k on the clock. It will be my daily driver and believe it or not will get 3-4 times the gas mileage of my current daily driver (a Chevy truck with a 12" lift, so terrible gas mileage, and will be my winter driver now). It's been a frustrating time trying to get an RX8. It's a long story, but I'll keep it short:

I thought I had a deal all wrapped up on one in Colorado, but the dealer sold it out from under me an hour before I got them the check. I had already told them I was buying it, I just had to run to the bank and have the check faxed to them because the loan was already set up and in the mean time they sold it to someone else. That made me pretty mad, so the past couple weeks I've been doing more research on finding the exact one I want. I finally found one in Washington and will be driving there this weekend to get it. I'll get pics up as soon as I can.

Haha. I looked at a winning blue one on sharpest rides a while back but the one that I was gonna buy was from Al Serra Chevrolet, they suck. Oh well, I found one I like even more, so it all worked out in the end.

Wow I'd be furious if that happened to me. A couple years ago I had a similar story: Saw an 8 for sale at a dealer ~200 miles from me. Called on Thursday and said I would drive down and buy it Saturday. I called again Friday to make sure we were still on; he assured me he was saving the car. I get down there on Saturday and he tells me he sold it to someone else an hour before I got there.

I guess deposits were created for a reason

yah i feel bad for the person who got there after me kind of, i didnt know untill after we bought it, and my dad knows the sales person and he told him later that some one came litteraly ten minutes after i left with the rx8 to buy it, i guess they convinced them to buy the other rx8 though

i sure do have the best timing in the world!

They tried to do the same thing by selling me the other one they had on the lot. I told him I didn't want the other one and that I wouldn't do business with them anyway.

i orginally wanted the other one on the lot, but the miles were tampered with or set back or something, so i didnt trust it, and got the other.

hopefully this wont happen a second time for you!

If you are getting terrible gas mileage in a chevy with 12" lift, I can only assume its a SBC without the correct gears. I had a suburban with 15" lift, 44" TSLs and 5.13 gears and the 454 got 13-15 mpg just like it did when it was stock.

Unless its a diesel or correctly geared gas motor, then yes it does suck for gas mileage. Good luck on the hunt though

I'm not sure. I've calculated it and it gets around 6-8 mpg. It's a '91 with I believe 4.83 gears.

4.83 doesn't sound right. 4.11, 4.56, 4.88, 5.13 are the standard sizes. What size tires and what engine/tranny?

350 engine, not sure on tranny, I bought it how it is, but I thought the guy I bought it from said 4.83 gears, but maybe 4.88's. oh and 38" tires.

4.88s, 38s, a 350, and if it was a newer truck it had either a 700r4, 4l60e, 4l80e unless it was a stick. With a 350 the gearing is bad, but it depends on if you do highway driving more or in town. If you were to say highway driving, then I would say 4.88s or 4.56s would be your best bet for mileage. If in town, I'd say 5.13s all day long

Yeah, I'm not too sure what it has. I don't do a lot of highway driving in my truck. It's my daily driver (or was, now the 8 will be, so I'll just use the truck on really bad snowy days). I live close to work and school, but if weather is good I have a caddy cts-v that I'll drive or my motorcycle, so it all depends on where I'm driving. I don't know enough about gearing, I guess I should do some research.
