Ok im a member over on rx7club, i have 93 fd single turbo and what not, and ive been looking to get a new daily driver...right now im daily driving a 03 ford ranger and the truck has seen better days..

Im wanting a rx8 but have a few concerns

-i heard mazda extended the warranty, whats the warranty now? do performance bolt ons effect the warranty?

-will any mazda dealer be able to service my rx8? or do i have to take it to the rotary shops to get serviced?

-you guys own these cars, whats the reiablity? what kinda of maintence do you do to keep them running strong?..

-hows the traction control in the snow? i live in pa it snows here


im still on the look out for a 06+ under 50k miles 6spd black/white or silver rx8(not base)

First off, read this:

Warranty - Engine and internals are 8year/100,000 which ever comes first.
Aftermarket parts can only void warranty if the dealer can prove that they caused a problem. But more than likely they will screw you over no matter what.

Reliability - SEARCH. The info is there. Dont expect everyone to spoon feed you everything. Forums are there for you to help you. And since newbies post something like this every day, members tend to get mad because this topic has been beaten to death.

Coolant seal is not covered, and those have a tendency to go out on the RX8. Trust me, I know.

Check oil regularly, or every gas fill-up, cause these engine eats a lot of oil.

Coolant seals are NOT covered by the extended engine core warranty? Are they not part of the engine core?

Based on postings here, I don't see a lot of people reporting coolant seal failure, unless the car has been allowed to overheat.

Thanks for posting that. I was thinking...how is it that a coolant seal is not covered when that's obviously a part of the engine core!

Here's some normal down to earth advice: if it's gonna be your ragular driving everyday car (winter and summer) Effing forget about getting an rx-8. i tried that, didn't work. driving stick in traffic everyday (with really bad drivers on the road : thank you montreal!) with the rx-8 low torque and high gas consumption....not good. taking it to the track and letting the beast roam free....very good!

I'm so glad I did not take "effing" advice like this, as I would have missed one of the greatest daily cars I've ever had.

Automatic is an option for those who can't drive a manual in heavy traffic. How is this unique to the RX-8?
I don't care about absolute torque figures. The car is more than fast enough for any daily driving conditions out there - I can't even use all the power and speed this car is capable of.
At an average of 23 mpg over the last 42,000 miles, I have no complaints about fuel consumption. I've had other daily cars that did worse, and were not nearly as pleasant to drive.

With proper maintenance and expectations, this one of the most practical exotic / milestone cars ever made. Get one and enjoy it.

First of all. automatic is NEVER an option for a sports car. no point having a great car and you can't unlock its potential. You call it exotic (which it is), rx-8s are one of the most accidented cars because they accelorate, handle, brake and behave completely different from other cars. But u get none of that with auto, just a rotary engine (the car drives you, instead of you driving the car). I've seen toyota echos destroy auto rx-8s on the track dude. besides longbeach doesn't have winter. the rest of us have extremes of the 4 seasons and have to change our driving habits accordingly.

You're just a mazda fan boy. i bet you drive on its toyo tires lol
