I got my 2nd RX8 last week...I like it but I have some questions...

hi guys.
I just want to say hi and ask some questions...
I used to have a 04, red, AT for one year. I really enjoyed it. The only reason I chose AT was I was not comfortable driving MT in Sanfrancisco. If you live in SF, you know what I mean..^_^, After having AT RX8 one year, I looked someing for "fun to drive". So I chose 05' Mazdaspeed MX5, Miata for six months and mini SUV(for snowboarding) for six months. But always I felt something is missing... I had always missed rotary sound....So, Finally I am back to 05 MT RX8 White one.^_^. .. I am very happy with new ride ^_^. Don't ask me, G35, Evo, Sti, Z350. They are nice cars and very practical, but, I just don't like them. S2000 was nice as well... but I need some practicality. Speed MX5 was also nice(it is converteble!!) but not as fun as MT RX8.

Here is some questions.
I am referring to owner's manual, 3-5.

"To confirm that all the doors have been locked, press the lock button again within
5 seconds. If they are closed and locked, the horn will sound and the hazard warning lights will flash once."
it works as it said but the hazard warning lights does not flash once.

"To unlock all the doors, press the unlock button again within 5 seconds and the
hazard warning lights will flash twice.
"
it works as it said but the hazard warning lights does not flash twice.

"To open the trunk, press the trunk button.
NOTE The trunk button is disabled when the glove box-mounted trunk lid release
lock-out button is in the OFF position.Refer to Remote Trunk Lid Release Lock-Out on page 3-14."
I checked trunk lid release lock-out button ON. but I still can't not open trunk by transmitter. However, I can open trunk w/remote trunk lid release and w/ key.

Any idea????
Thanks in advance.

If your trunk isn't closed all the way, it will prevent the hazards from flashing.

Thanks RevTo9K for your reply.
But I am pretty sure the trunk closed completely.
I guess I have to bring her to local dealer.

You have to hold down the trunk release button on the remote for about 3 seconds!

Respectfully,
Kay R. Fisher

Thanks NgoRX8, Kay Fisher.
It works!!! I did not know I had to hold the trunk button.^_^

Dro,
I tried many times closing trunk "very hard" and I am pretty sure it closed completely, but I still have light problems but I can live with it for now.
Thanks guys.

I think they added the "hold" on the 05's because some peopel were accidentally opening their trunks when their keys were in their pockets

Weird. I have an '05, I don't have to hold the key, and the trunk ALWAYS accidentally opens cuz I have the keys in my pockets...

So you didn't have any of these problems with your 1st 8? Just seems a little strange.

2005 RX-8 vehicles with VINs after JM1FE******152491 (produced after April 1, 2005)
DESCRIPTION
On 2005 RX-8 vehicles produced after April 1, 2005, some customers may complain of inconsistent operation
of the trunk release button function on the retractable key. This service bulletin has been issued to inform that
the time required to press and hold the trunk release button on the retractable key has changed (from approximately
0.05 to 0.7 seconds). When opening the trunk using the trunk release button on the retractable key, you
must press and hold the trunk release button until the trunk opens. This production change has been made to
prevent unintentional opening of the trunk lid when handling the retractable key.
Explain to the customer that this is normal operation and to press and hold the trunk release button to open the
trunk.

Not that I remenber... I sold first one around o5' March....so it has been passed a year... If you want, you can find some pictures of my 1st RX8 in audio session..
I really liked AT RX8 but I can not compare w/ MT RX8 when it coms to "fun to drive" factor. However, I am still learning how to drive manual stick and I am definitely getting better but I am very nervous when I have to stop in the middle of hills and I am still having difficulty between changing gears...I guess I need lots of practice, practice, and practice....
Have a nice days.
