- Drive 80 miles/workday
- 85% highway
- Redline every chance I get in 1st - 3rd Gear (at least twice per drive)
- Average 22.24 mpg since 'M' reflash (was 21.76mpg on 'L' reflash)
- currenly have ~ 23,000 miles on her, and in need of new tires
- use 87 Shell or Texaco

~210 til' 1/4 of a tank is left. This includes with lots of 6-8K rpm (the hell with 3-4K rpm :p) shifting in city (90%) and highway (10%). And to make it even better....my 8 gets better mileage than my 97 Accord :D

~250 miles when the light comes on.
13.5 gallons to fill'er up.
Shell VPower 93 Octane ($1.86 / gallon).
6 Speed M/T, All stock 8,000 miles.
A.C. on 85% of the time. Hot as hell in South Carolina!
NOT babied, but try to cruise in the 3300 RPM reange when practical.

I've got 18500 miles on my car now.
Driven at least 60 miles daily, 75% highway, 25% city. Sitting in LA traffic half the time.
I always fill up when the light comes on at ~13.25 gallons.
Lowest tank was 220. (first tank coming from the dealership)
Highest tank was 290. (I blame it on cool weather with no traffic)
Usually get between 250 and 270.
I cycle between 87, 89, and 91 octane every tank. (Unocal 76, Beacon, Mobile)
Never hit the rev limiter, but do a lot of 7k-8k blasts.
AC never on, windows and sunroof always open.
DSC/TCS always on.
Radio and sub always on.

Usually get about 270-280 before the light comes on. Got 310 last week, but filled up before the light actually come on so I don't know how much I could have gotten. And if you think I drive like a granny, just ask the Guy321, who was behind me at Tail of the Dragon this weekend, how I was driving. Still got 220 miles in 11 gallons, and only filled up because we were leaving for home.

I bought my car the end of June. The best I saw was 220 m.p.t. and that was highway driving. I believe this is due to the special summer gas formula to reduce emissions. When winter arrives, this should go up. Power should increase too. Many urban areas use special oxyginated gas formulas for summer use.

On Chicago "oxygenated" gas (which already contains less energy than normal gas sold elsewhere - it's 10% ethanol), and my normal mix of mostly suburban driving and a driving style consistent with the statement "drive it like you stole it" (rarely shift below 5000 RPM, most accelerations to speed limit are hard to WOT, and frequent redlining - what the f-ck, it's a leased car!), my warning light normally comes on at around 200-210 miles, and I fill it with 13 gallons of Shell V-Power.

Just filled mine up for the third time since buying it. Filled up with just under 13 gallons and just before the light came on, got 256.7 miles out of it. Worked out to 19.8 MPG. Driving is 60% hwy, 40% city, car has M flash, fill up with 91 octane. Since reading all the posts/threads about mileage before buying the car, I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all the gas mileage info on my car.

180-200 miles; I fill up when the light comes on.
Just passed 7,000 miles on my 8.
Driving is 90% city. I average about 200-250 miles per week.
Reading all of these posts I'm starting to believe that everyone who says they get "20 mpg" is doing almost all highway miles.

Hmm. I thought I posted in this thread. Oh well.
I get around 255 miles per tank, and that's when it's a quarter low. I didn't buy this car for the mileage; I knew the implications of owning a rotary engine.

I only get about 144 miles per tank. At least that is when I generally fill it up on my weekly lake trips. I have never seen my low fuel light come on.
I hate to say it, but unless you run the tank dry, who cares, and if you don't know your mpg, you'll still be clueless, and out of gas. I imagine the light comes on at different time for most cars, so if you don't post the actual true mpg then any other information is pointless. I'm confused about what the original question was intended to be?
BTW, I get around 22-23 MPG on country roads, 18 MPG city. Which is around 6.5 gallons per tank

I've been keeping score, mostly a compulsion at this point. I'm getting 18.7 mpg, driving a mix of highway, suburbs and city. Details for those interested are in my sig file.
I think my experience has been completely typical of what the average RX-8 owner experiences, and I chock up those drivers who get significantly worse mileage to either (1) the occassional bad engine or (2) driving style.
My mileage is on any given tank is meaningless information, since I fill up whenever it's convenient.
Summary:
About 8k miles on the car to date.
Best real-world tank: 269 miles.
The average extrapolated tank at 18.7 mpg provides: 289 miles.
Best Extrapolated tank: 334 miles (excluding an outlier of 383 miles on the first tank... I still can't figure out my first tank - it was an unprecedented 24 mpg).

The most I've ever gotten on a tank is 310 miles and that's when I drove it well beyond when the light came on. Usually, my light will turn on around 230 miles though.

Bottom feeder
interesting.... I wonder if there is a relationship between locale and mileage... most of us over here on the west coast get PP milage, while the few who claim to regularly get 250+ mileage are out in the east, with exception to the FL person, but his typical driving had almost no steady speed, all city.
maybe there's some sort of conspiracy!
I typically get 200 miles to the tank, however I typically can take her about 30 miles past the fuel empty indicator before I get nervous. When I do, the overuse catches up on the next tank (thus the mileage is poorer because I end up pumping more fuel).
