How many have ordered their RX-8?

Subject really says it all. I haven't ordered yet because I'm 1) saving for my wedding that's this September, and 2) wrestling with selling my Subaru...I want AWD, but the RX-8 would be supa-fly to have

Just curious to see how may of you have ordered, and also wondering if there's any indication from Mazda what their preorder tally is looking like.

Fly to Vegas and get married for 50$, then spend the money on the car. If she really loves you she will let you.

J/K man congrats.

First off, red interior is straight up "LOVE SHACK". I don't dig it, but hey, everyone's got an opinion (even if it's wrong :P )

Second, what kind of spoiler? aluminum, yes, but what kind? GTC style? If so, we can't be friends anymore

Cool

Just like this one.....i am planning on getting black with the interior having red accents, maybe tint the windows... but then as performance parts become available i will be adding them, you cant be all talk and no walk ya know? and yes the wing will have a purpose, I'll be AutoXing and it'll help keep the rear end planted heres a pic of the wing spoiler

well, the interior sounds nice...accents are ok if you don't go too nuts with them.

Your spoiler tho man...we gotta talk. That spoiler is sooooo...well, it's pretty ricey, but like, for autox, how fast do you get going? Chances are that it won't have much of an effect unless you're doing 80+, and I didn't think autox events got that fast. I mean, by the same logic you'd be getting a diffuser and deflectors on the front to keep you planted...it's not a LeMans car :/

Well I feel that this car is Rice Exempt BECAUSE.....1) it can do over 100 mph, easily, without strain. 2) Because the exhaust will not exceed exuberant levels and the sizing of the exit will not be able to house a family of four. 3) It is RWD 4) I will actually be doing 100+, I plan to go to Lime Rock as soon as the weather is nice enough to do so.

I can't preorder one, myself. I need to see what the Mini Cooper is like...and I also need to see the Lancer EVO, and the WRX-STi.

Ugh, so many options, and I can't make up my mind. I think I may lean towards the AWD cars, though, being that these New England winters tend to suck...plus I like rallying

I put money down on an 8, but couldn't specify any options for sure, so I wouldn't call it an "order" really.

I have the #2 reservation at my local dealer.

im in the same boat as jgard, gotta check out the evo first.. and i'd rather wait till it's out for a bit.. after the initial rush it will die down and it will be easier to deal with the dealers.. im expecting them to get pretty cocky considering this is the first car in a while people will be willing to pay for. same exact thing happened when the wrx came out.. im not paying the 'first owner of the block' tax on something that will depriciate like crazy..

Spoiler, what spoiler?:o

Well, i think i'll be able to devise something so that if and when i get the chance to go to Watkins Glen or Limerock I can put one on so that i do get some actual aerodynamics (and im taliing about a spoiler that can be adjusted, not one of those silly plastic or fiberglass ones.) Well see though.
:o

Assuming you do take it to Limerock or the Glen, you'll be excused ... that cancels out ricerosity.

Talking

Well I bit the bullet.

I went down to my local Mazda dealership here in Toronto and put my $500.00 down for an RX-8. I was seriously considering a Miata SE (love the yellow) but once I saw the RX-8 at the auto show I was totally sold. The salesman told me that it could be in as early as Feb’03 but I don’t want delivery until April (Canadian winters being the way they are).

I cannot believe that I have to wait a year.

They actually took a deposit in TO? The one dealer in Ottawa I spoke to doesn't have a clue what the scoop is yet...

The dealer could not tell me very much at this time, but the one thing that he did tell me was that they would not charge me more than MSRP. They claim Mazda Canada has told them that their dealership will have a quota of three cars for the first year, they also said that based on past history they typically receive twice as many of limited edition cars as their original forecasted quota.

They are expecting the base rx8 will come in just under $40,000.00 CDN with two option packages being available, one of them including an automatic transmission.

I’m not sure what colours will be available to choose from but I think that yellow, black or red would look great! I’ve already had three silver cars so that is out of the question.

It’s just a matter of time now.

well your dealer is pulling your leg. The car isnt "limited" edition. Its full production. It MAY be hard to get due to initial demand, however Nissan may take some of the wind out of that sail with the Pre-Order push for the 350Z. But a quota on a full production car seems rather fishy.
